#9 Dylan Shiel (Part 1)

FLMAO. What a non-event in the end. Like it was always going to be. Welcome Dylan. You’re home now. A new home but a good home. You’re part of the core now. No need to wonder about that. Devon and Zach will look after you along with Heppell and the rest of the boys. Enjoy. We will be. Welcome again. Go bombers!

Fark SOS and Fark Carlton.

I reckon if the bottom 4 or 5 in the best 22 are fringe players, then Parish is a fringe player. He might elevate himself next year, but on this year’s form he’s definitely only just in our best 22

Dodoro very genuine in saying it went to the line.

Just love that he chose us over the $$$.

History will be the ultimate judge but in the meantime we had no other choice, and GWS knew that. Yep, it didn’t matter whether they still needed to shed salary or not, our need was more obvious. Once he picked us there was one target only, everyone knew it.
What have we lost? 9 this year and next year’s first, probably a teen pick. Look at who we’ve got for teen picks in the past, some good ones but plenty of average ones too. The odds on getting a decent mid from 2 picks, with one in the teens, aren’t great. To get an A grader is even longer.
It’s a no brainer to take a gun mid in his mid 20s over 2 young prospects, especially when we have proved successful in picking decent players late in the draft.
Getting a future second back is icing on the cake.
Ps One thing I find constantly irritating is the constant valuing of first round picks as all equal. 1 and 18 are first rounders, 1 and 19 are 1st and 2nd. 9 and, let’s say, 13, aren’t anything like 1 and 2, but they’re both pairs of 1st rounders.

There was no way Jackets was going to let this bloke down. I don’t understand why anyone was worried about that.

Pies gave this year first round and next years first round for Beams. So put it in perspective we did very well in getting their second round pick next year also.

I hope Jackets picks up another Merrett at GWSs second next year.

Ssssh! (plus Heppell).

Mate please…Dodoro said himself he was unsure of it happening with minutes left and that he was worried. So yes, a lot of fans were worried.

What do you think he’s going to say?

He ended up giving them what they asked for but held out for more. Maybe he was concerned the guy who had passed up plenty to come to us had changed his mind? Ok, sure. Maybe.

It was always happening. The only issue was establishing the cost

Giants won’t make finals next year so might only be a 5-10 pick downgrade next year

But realistically, it’s an irresponsible move from Collingwood. You can quote some situations to make an argument on trade value E.g. Collingwood’s Beams deal, what Adelaide gave up for Gibbs and even Sydney’s decision to let Tom Mitchell go for pick 14. But at the end of the day those 3 clubs got screwed over.

Yep, time to put blitz away till next year or start a thread about favourite crayons or something

Can’t see that happening unless they have a ridiculous injury count. Still have an enormous amount of talent and natural growth left.

Instant slot in midfielder with elite disposal and ball wining ability, who’ll easily be in our top 3, with the bonus of lessening the tag load on Merrett & Hep.
We already have a young list, we can afford to lose 2 firsts for this sort of quality.

Don’t underestimate the loss of Scully and Shiel for morale and leadership. Even though Scully missed with injury he was still a solid mentor and leader to many there. Shiel also held in very high regard by the players. I think they will go backwards
