A little crispy one Garry - The footy media thread

I heard that Peter Sumich went into the No. 1 Pick Shop, and he criticised Harley Reid, and they had to close the No. 1 Pick Shop

every single day on this stupid planet we are subjected to seeing the dumbest sht of all time, only for it to be topped by even dumber sht mere hours, sometimes minutes, later. so battered are we all emotionally by this constant stream of effluvia that most of the time the newest clubhouse leader barely elicits a response

but sometimes there’s one that will probably stay fresh in the consciousness for maybe a day or two longer than others

the concept that this tweet outlines gets more and more fkng insane and stupid the more you think about it. i genuinely and sincerely hope that everyone involved at all levels of it (except for harley reid) [redacted] by the weekend

I heard Sumich said that if Harley Reid had a shot on the siren to win a final, he’d probably kick a point.

FYI Harley Reid no longer exists, he is the “Prince of Perth”

Matt Guelfi currently meeting his solicitor for trademark infringement.

He is destined for failure tbh. The amount of expectation being put on him is just dumb. He’s an 18 year old kid who is good at footy. People need to breathe.

Apparently a Harley Reid story has been on the back page of the WA newspaper nearly 30 days in the last 35 days.

It’s absolutely insane and I really feel for the young man. Having lived there a while you know what the Eagles hype is about, but this is next level. I hope he’s got a good support network around him because most kids his age would struggle to cope. One of my mates is from Tongala and knows the Reid family well and they are a very down to earth, humble family from a regional town, so it would be a complete culture shock the level of attention he’s getting.

Well, they have to find a new replacement for Bruce Mcavaney, because the other MacLachlan has been exiled to France. No problem there, Hamish never had the gravitas of Bruce. Now they have to find someone who does.

Well if scores were level, he would be a hero just the same.

Basil’s schnoz looking for a new agent.

All that’s going to do is heap more pressure on the kid

To be fair, whilst it wouldn’t surprise me in slightest if it were true, that’s based on a quote from Sumich and he can touch Kornes levels of moron

Amazing player, probably top 3 of all time (if not the best), but I doubt anyone has ever watching a game and thought “■■■■ Lethal’s interesting!”

He offers absolutely nothing, literally no one is going to tune in because he’s on.

Concur.
Needs to be top three of all time because there’s simply no-one else like him.

You can argue Lockett vs Dunstall ‘til the cows come home, but how would they have gone in the midfield?

Small anecdote re Lethal.

A family member has some media contacts. During the 2002 Grand Final, in the coaches box, Lethal was silent all throughout the last quarter. Didn’t say a word while everyone else around him was screaming orders and directions into the phones.

With just a few minutes to play, he mentions softly to one of his assistants “tell Aker to push forward.”

A few moments later Aker kicks the winning goal.

It’s a shame that level of insight rarely makes it to TV when these guys get media gigs.

His coaches box recording was broadcast on Fox Footy, called from the lips of lethal i think.

He says to the runner “go tell aker to stand in front of Lynchy”

Damn, I thought I had an inside story.

Regardless though, some of the most accomplished players and coaches in the history of the game get media gigs and sound like they’ve never seen a football before.

But lethal said it was Gary O’Donnell that suggested that move, which was good to see he gave him the credit for it, as a lot of managers with an ego would just take the credit.

I actually think Leigh’ s insights are pretty good, but better in radio pre game etc than in game.

one insight per quarter sounds about right
