So many great gridiron movies. Most already named, but I'll throw in Friday Night Lights & Rudy.
For something different I really liked The Wrestler.
For comedic value Caddyshack & Dodgeball.
For grid iron l like Dallas North 40 (1979) with Nick Nolte.
Interesting treatment as well, as at times it is one of the pioneers of the mocumentary style of film making.
Regarding longest yard /mean machine, which one was first? I know there was Longest yard in 60s or 70s with Burt Reynolds, was there also mean machine (Soccer version of it) around that time or just the one with Viney Jones?
I liked Field of Dreams as well - gave an amazing insight into America’s love for baseball which I’ve come to appreciate.
The best though? That is tough.
When I was young I enjoyed a few of the light hearted kids sport flicks - Mighty Ducks, Cool Runnings, Bend it like Beckham etc.
For the more mature flicks Remember the Titans, Rocky, Goal, Jerry MacGuire (great film), Rush was a great film and eye opener.
Very close if not my number one though would be Million Dollar Baby - incredible film, incredible acting. I love Clint Eastwood and if you like his more recent films and need a film to watch with the wife - try Trouble with the Curve - another good sport film for mine.
I dunno, I think he did neighbours at some point (he’s an actor who’s worked in Australia in the past 30 years… stands to reason) but not for all that long IIRC. You’ve done stage stuff yeah? You may have crossed paths with him.
