I don’t see the need, I’d play Mckernan as the number 1 ruck if TBell went down in front of Luenberg anyway.

Joe Daniher as back-up ruck??! We’ve won 8 of the last 10 without him in the forward line.
If Belly goes down, then Smack and Joe share the duties. Call for the straightjacket now if you wish. I’m a size 43 across the chest.
Saves having to go out and shop for a back-up ruckman, when what we still need is 1 or 2 more midfielders, to make our list look complete. Draper will come good in a couple of years.

Joe is not a great tap ruckman.
But yes that is an alternative, if we were going to run down that path Joe should do a large amount of ruckwork and endurance in preseason.
joe doing 30-40% ruck and midfield time is a good idea. particularly as bellchambers gets older and loses mobility
Agree. I believe the club will be looking for a backup ruckman, a stop gap between tbell and drapes. But I think we should upgrade McKernan to be that backup ruck, no need to be sending picks out for a bloke that will spend much of the season in the twos just in case tommy gets injured. We have Stewart, daniher, hooker and Hartley to take contests if we are desperate.

Yep - he’s a great mark anywhere (remember that classic pack mark vs Swans mid last year, when we were just 6 pts up with 50sec left (that should’ve been the game done right there). No reason why as ruck he can’t also float across half back too. His engine is not that bad for a big guy - has good acceleration for his size and as we know a massive kick. Look at Fish - we all thought in the mid 80s, destined to be an all time great FF, ended up being a very good ruckman, especially for the Hawks. Watch this space - expect Joe to do more in the ruck in 2019 and beyond. So ‘Jackets and Co’ - go all out for those mids.

Gaff’s priority is to stay at the eagles. As long as he can set himself up financially for the long term. Has no desire to live in WA post footy career. Does enjoy the lifestyle in Perth.
But if eagles don’t have the right offer he will look to move back home. Knows the eagles won’t be able to match some of the offers that have and will come his way. But sees success at the eagles and has good friends their.
Only North and St Kilda have provided concrete offers to his management. Which have been passed onto him.
Melbourne and Essendon haven’t even approached his manager(as media have lead us to believe). If they have he certainly hasn’t been told about it yet. His management and he are expecting more offers from Melbourne clubs. His decision won’t be purely financial. Post afl career and on field success are high on his Wishlist.
West coast aware he would like stay and are confident of keeping him. But do know he will leave if right offer doesn’t come along.
