It was men vs boys out there. So much bigger, not just height but physically much bigger and stronger. I sat at ground level tonight on the wing, normally I’m above in level 2, it gave me a different perspective on the game and the physical difference was much more noticeable.

I was listening to Darren Burgess during the week and he was talking about how each club he has worked at has had a clear directive towards the high performance team about where they want to improve and what physical traits their players will need in order to fit the game plan.
Adelaide was a clear direction, we want our players big and strong.

Drop the guys who can qualify and help the 2nds make the finals. And bring back the guys who can’t qualify. What’s it going to matter anyway

Actually thought our attitude and intent was pretty good. But the gulf in talent, physicality and experience was too big to bridge.
Getting beaten by 70 odd points from a top 4 ish team is about where we’re at.
I hope we look back at this as the low point, but next year looms as similar to my mind.
You can certainly tell! On every line, and every type of player, key tall, mid, small, their equivalent player was bigger, more powerful, more agile…

For those that love disposals, we had 7 of the top 10 disposal getters this game and lost by 72 points.

Actually this is a good idea.
Kids would get more value out of playing a VFL final’s series, than the shellackings we are going to get in the AFL.

Why B McKay didn’t play when the opposition has the sort of forwards we got him for me is beyond belief ….if you don’t play him today then you may all we’ll trade him or pay him out .
Lang ford + jones in the backline another masterstroke from our 1990’s coaching panel that along with our extravagant forward line structure I can’t not see them all being employed next year …..at a Surburban afternoon time slot.
Just basic stuff from senior players that would be lucky to meet under 12 standards .

This is what we’re copping for the next year or two. Glimpses of talent, but miles off the best.
It’s fine so long as whoever we appoint as coach knows what they are doing. If not, this’ll be what we see for the next 5+ years.

I didn’t think our forward line looked that much better with three small forwards. Not compared to how much everyone’s banged on about going too tall in the team threads each year.
People are forgetting these kids are playing the way they have been taught to play for 4 years.
How many times do young players take a mark, stop, look around and kick the ball backwards?
Rinse & Repeat.
The other problem is lack of trust in each other, too often when they get the ball they look for Merrett, Durham or one of the senior players. They don’t play on instinct and take the first option, this can be easily remedied.
With good coaching & proper development they are going to improve out of sight.
