Apple's Latest

I have a Fitbit Versa 2. I think the current model is Versa 3 or 4. It costs half what an Apple Watch costs (or less), and the battery life is about 3 or 4 days depending on how much you use it for. I looked closely at the Apple, but there wasn’t anything at all that I wanted that I couldn’t do on the Fitbit, and it was the battery life that sold me on the Fitbit.

As for phone calls and texts, I keep my phone on silent. The calls still come through on the Fitbit, but I’m the only person who knows and I can choose whether to take the call or not.

On the basis of what you have mentioned, I would say the Fitbit wins hands down.

I have a fitbit charge 5 and its junk. 5 day battery life at start but down to 2 days after a year and dies on me randomly 2 years in, sometimes 10 minutes after charging. Would never buy a fitbit again.

I’ve had 3 Fitbits. I’ve never had anything like that happen – they’ve all been great and I’ve decided from time to time to upgrade. The Charge is not really a watch. If you want a watch, get a Versa.

I have a Fitbit Sense 2.
I like the sleep tracking it does.
Unfortunately you have to pay for it to track the data.

Battery life isn’t an issue at all.
I take it off and charge when I have a shower. So it’s rarely flat.

Agree, Ms AT had two fitbits. Both bit the dust - first within warranty, next just out. Utterly crap.

just as a reminder for those who don’t know: fitbits are NOT Apple products.

FWIW, my tech-savvy PA has an Apple watch and loves it

I’ve just found people with Apple Watches seem to pay more attention to messages and who’s calling than people on phones. Maybe it’s just the hand motion of checking it, gives off ‘is that the time?’ ‘This meeting is so boring’ type body language.

Mrs Fox had a Fitbit and said it was too big, so I got the Fitbit and She got an APPLE.

My Fitbit was recalled and they gave me a credit of USD300. For about AUD250, I got a new Fitbit.

In my view the Apple is better.

never pegged you for a boomer

Of course Apple is better.

The Fitbits would cost under a dollar to make. They were giving stuff like that out free in the US back in the 'eighties, so would be even cheaper now. so they have a HUGE price markup

Most providers let you include it in your existing plan now. Doesn’t cost any extra.

Which FItbit did you get? And why is the Apple better? In what ways?

Under a dollar. You do talk absolute rubbish sometimes, Albert.

Show me your costings then expert. I know they could give them away free forty years ago in US; I know because I got one free then. With vastly reduced manufacturing costs in China they should be even cheaper on a unit price these days

But hey you are the self-declared expert. But all we have seen your expertise is only in “rubbish”. So provide some legitimate costings or shut up.

Right. So they gave away smartwatches that tracked exercises, synced with your mobile phone, had GPS tracking, notified you when you received a phone call, allowed you to make payments on your card without the card …?

Remarkable gifts. Seeing as most of those things hadn’t been invented yet …

But you do know everything, don’t you?

Of course they didn’t do things that weren’t invented yet. But they did track exercise, at least steps.

So how much extra is the incremental cost of including electronics to cover those other functions?

BTW Most and probably all of those extra functions were NOT included in the failed fitbits I was referring to above

When I investigated why my Fitbit was recalled, no-one would say, so I got a friend in USA to dig it out and it seems one of this model had a battery explode while being worn.

Reckon all these watches cost under $10 to be made, including Apple.

I think you’re getting mixed up between pedometers and smart fitness watches

I got Mrs P one a few xmases ago. It gets daily use when she’s at work, never outside work.

I hate having devices ping at me, and crank up as many privacy settings as possible, so I hate the whole concept of them.

It is pretty nicely built.

im annoyed Apple has ditched the Mini.

I bought up all the accessories for that phone when it came out. and now its dead ended.

ffs not everyone wants a huge phone with all the bells and whistles.

and apples pricing is nuts for us. a US 800 phone is almost double in AUD. simply because I assume of locking in the shabby exchange rate now.

think iPhone 15 will be a hard pass for me
