Apple's Latest

There have been “issues” with almost every new iPhone release. Remember the “bendy” iPhone? Or the one that had some “problem” with the aerial embedded in the metal strip around the 4, I think it was?

All rubbish.)

Yep. I acted in haste. Will likely reorder. Anyone else here moving from the 14PM to the 15PM? On one hand, I don’t think it’s worth spending so much money in a year. On the other, this is the most value I’ll ever get from a trade-in.

I think it was a software issue

One of the best things about Apple is how well they respond to issues. All companies have recalls for problems within warranty, which conveniently for us in Australia is usually for a longer time than standard warranty for other countries - especially on premium products. But Apple also responds to issues with products even if they’re only discovered after warranty has well and truly expired.

I had an early MacBook Pro Retina with a dead graphics card at 3.5 years old or thereabouts. This became a known issue around that time, and there was a 12 month recall period that extended to when they were nearly 5 years old. I think the cost of that part replacement without the recall was around AUD$800, which was about all they were worth at the time second hand. I took mine in, and sure enough, replaced free of charge.

Likewise. I reported an issue and they sent out a replacement without me even having to return the original.

They have billions of dollars in the bank and charge a fortune for their products so they should be decent with returns!

Wife’s Insta and LinkedIn was hacked last night. She clicked a link on her iPhone and pretty much straight away lost access to them.

Reported is to the two acccounts that are now spamming her contacts, but, geez it’s hard to get an easy response.

Sory to hear that but should be in the viruses and scams thread. Not an Apple issue per se.

Might have to pay for a mobile for the first time, ever.

iPhone has always been a winner, so not interested in anything else.

Fark, they’re expensive. Like, really expensive!!

So, what’s the best way to source the best deals on these?

I see if I buy in the Apple store I can get $1,000 off the phone, which makes it comparable to phone+plan if I was on a really cheap plan.

I would suggest to stay with an iphone only if you’re deep in the ecosystem, (icloud, got other devices linked up, iwatch, ipad etc) as it’s a bloody pain to unhinge yourself from apple.

If thats not an issue, the worlds your oyster!

I would stay with an iphone simply because of that sort of discount. A grand off is unheard of. I’d almost wanna sell it for a profit and get an older model.

Yes it looks attractive.

But…

Have to buy in store at Apple

  • Have to be with Vodafone
  • 2 year contract
  • 150GB per month (which is heaps)

I did some back of envelope stuff, and it looks like it works out close to buying the phone outright, and getting a $30 plan. That would only be about 25GB per month. So it’s good, but not as crazy as it first sounds.

phone payment plans are almost never cheaper.

Anyone here going to pay an arm and a leg (and sell a kidney) for the Vision Pro?

Ill wait until its been out at least a year. It looks like great technology.

I expect other tech companies to come out with other competing cool stuff.

Its going to more than 5k australian dolllars so it will need to be useful.

So expensive.

However I recently bought some iphones for people i know overseas. Australia is one of the cheapest places on earth to buy one.

Just checked it out after your post. I just don’t think it will catch on. It will be fun at first but people just won’t want to wear those goggles. Like 3d tv.
I also didn’t think bottled water would catch on so take what I think with a grain of salt

Can’t see bottles of saltwater being a big seller.

Ray Ban (as an example) are doing vr too. It’s not as ambitious, but you see we’re it’s going.

Apple’s version feels like a 0.1 release and aimed at devs. Kinda feel like in the next 2-3 years their version will shrink down to something similar to Ray Ban’s version.
