God I did kodi a few years ago. Just too much mucking around I found, and in the end just ditched it. You would get it all just right then a streaming service would just disappear. Very cool idea by just too much ■■■■■■■ around
Used an old Apple TV and it works almost perfectly, cost $0 too
My v11 stopped working a week or two back, couldn’t find any obstructions, so hit the YouTube, dismantled the filter bit and holy ■■■■! Severely covered in muck.
I must admit I wouldn’t mind that UV light, or whatever it is, that shows up the actual dust on the floor…but I’m not going to replace it. You probably pay an extra $700 or more for it being a Dyson.
If I could trade it for a superstar and a third-round pick though.
Dyson are the apple of vaccum cleaners, a fair bit of bs and hype
Whilst I agree with this.
I have never owned a better vacuum cleaner than our Dyson. Works well. Easy to clean. Lasted 12 years and no sign of slowing down
Can someone recommend a chrome cast for kayo on phone to tv, is there a specific one.
Sorry if mentioned already I skipped a bunch of posts, also I’m not very techy.
chromecast is the brand name of the device. costs like $60? (i think)
plugs into your telly and connects to wifi. instructions come up on the screen as you go.
yeah it can be fiddly as all hell to get going. trick is to find an app repository that’s regularly maintained and updated (eg: slyguy) so things don’t get broken by system updates
i enjoy tinkering so it’s right up my alley
Now goes by Google TV as well starts at 99
Also your ecosystem matters. If with iPhone probably better going apple tv. Android go Chromecast. They just integrate better
Ok so I go with chromecast for samsung s20, cheers people.
I have a new tv and I can send straight from the hone to the tv out of kayo
It’s amazing
But maybe with an additional device it will be more stable, and maybe higher def
I guess they do, but I also have no dramas casting from my iPhone to google chrome cast. (YouTube, kayo, Netflix etc) - if you can’t find a cheap Apple TV secondhand(new ones are exxy) a chrome cast I think might be fine…
hey mate the Chinese thingo did come with optical, and analog L+R. what inputs does your stereo have?
re: mains power, yeah I think its DC 5volt with a battery pack by the look of it on the pictures.
blurs out the bluetooth, which I reckons a touch suss. maybe the bluetooth doesn’t work so well. there must be better brands but.
this one has reviews? there’s heaps of bluetooth DACs out there but they can cost a fair bit. might defeat the purpose depending on your budget.
I’ve got an 8yo Lg tv that still looks fantastic so sticking with that, we have an older version apple tv which we tried with ipad but it was no good.
Has anyone got their head around smart home systems? I mean, wifi connected devices that you can monitor or control when away from home.
As I understand it I would need a hub device (typically Amazon Dot, Google thing or a Apple speaker) as well as the devices I want to control.
I don’t really understand the pros and cons of the rival systems, other than in all cases I am not that keen on having a device that is always listening and is transmitting over the internet in the house.
there’s heaps of them at Bunnings now. I think its mainly Alexa(amazon) and google
my misso let me have smart speakers, but she drew the line at having one in the bedroom.
I like the idea of the smart lights(not sure if worth the expense given LED normal globes run hardly any power), or even something small like this: Arlec Grid Connect Smart 4 Outlet Powerboard With USB Charger - Bunnings Australia
I think the latter would be cool as I have left the heater on a number of times this year all night or all day and its gonna kill my electricity bill
I have quite a few smart devices at home now. Google speakers, bose speakers, tplink kasa power points, vacuum, beside lamps, even my toilet bidet!
Arlec is the weakest due to software. I bought a flat panel heater from bunnings, but you can only control on and off, not the fine temperature or power (high and low) settings.
Google vs Alexa is chalk and cheese. Google is just smarter while Alexa can be a bit more Americanised. I used Alexa for about six months on a bose speaker before google assist was introduced. However if you are a heavy user on amazon you can buy any alexa related product and have it setup before it arrives at your door.
You need individual apps but then most now can link to google so you only need to setup each device once on its native app then google can take over to be the central hub.
Forgot to add, tplink kasa stuff is great for floor lamps. I dont have it on any ceiling installed stuff but beside lamps, room lamps that kind of stuff is great. The away from home setting is good too cause you set a time you want it to be activated then it randomises the on and off periods. Cant sit outside and see its a set schedule.
Yes that is what we want it for, as well as starting up an electric heater to take the chill off when coming back home after a couple of days away. Really we need a smarter heating system than our existing gas room heater (or the wood fire!) but that will wait until after some renovations.
My old stereo has RCA inputs (red & white) left/right channel.
That one on eBay gets reasonable reviews, but doesnt come with a power supply.
As its a spare stereo in my home gym, I dont want to spend much. Reckon this plus a 5v adapter would do the job a couple of times per week? (if so, what 5V adapter do I need?)
what about just about an Arlec power board though to make dumb appliances smart?(by just cutting the power too them on a timer?)
I don’t want to throw out a perfectly good electric heater
