Appliance Buying Guide: What's good and stuff

My dad bought the arlec ones. One died out of four so far. All my tplink ones still doing strong.

well if you look at them, I think its 5v DC to USB. so you would just need to plug it into a USB port. or a power plug to usb.(I have a few of them from my mobile phone). (just read the description, should say the DAC, USB power Cable etc)

Cant fit it all in one screen.

That would work. Just check how many watts the powerboard / plug can take.

Will work on anything that has a good old fashioned physical on off switch. So touch lamps won’t work, tvs won’t work, etc…

I should have a spare one around the place. Thanks!

I reckon its the closet thing you will get to a budget crack at it. maybe go for the one that has the few reviews on eBay

Anybody had experience with the robot vacuums?

Moved house recently to a place with a lot of floorspace covered in very light coloured tiles and light grey carpets. Coupled with a cat and dog, this has made vaccuming a thrice weekly occurrence. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

We have one. Does a great job but only thing is the one we got is noisey. It can’t get to all the spots but we can put it in a room and shut the door and it does a pretty good job.

Also we can set a timer so when we aren’t home it just starts what time it’s set for and when the battery starts to get flat it makes its way back to the docking station and recharges.

What did you go with?

I dont mind the noise so much as the plan is to program it to slave away when nobody is home (except the cat, but fark her).

Same here I’m very patient, tech is my living but kodi drove me Nuts. Plus I found it a bit iffy on pi. Do you reckon its more stable these days? I’m thinking maybe I’ll get a little i5 nuc and try agajn maybe. As I exited last time the ā€œfreeā€ "streaming " ( nudge wink) had largely been shut down which made it even more pointless at that point. Has this changed?

This is the one we got. It is sold by Kogan. The reviews were pretty good so purchased it. We haven’t tried the timer yet. The noise is probably not as loud as a normal vacuum but if I was watching the footy and it was working around me and we are getting a bad run with the umps I reckon it would get thrown out the window :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

ahhh i see where you’re up to now

you definitely need actual accounts for streaming services to work

i use mine to stream tv and movies from a uhhh very local server

I figured all that ā€œotherā€ stuff was long gone. I dont know, but to me chrome cast just makes it all too easy for streaming services, plus I have wired chromecast and it’s just too easy and the quality is as good as it gets. I guess kodi is good as a media server platform if you have lots of if local media

Ever wanted to vacuum under one single chair - and nowhere else in the house - about 35 times a week?

Then a robot vacuum is for you.

I have the Xiaomi Vacuum after another blitzer recommended it. Two years, running very nicely and still getting firmware updates.

A robot vacuum gets firmware updates :astonished:

Seriously? Mine doesn’t do that.

So does my toilet

Do they have any that stretch to 40?

There’s frequent… unpleasantness in that chair.
