“Move it Ace”
Once Upon A Time in Hollywood’s glacial pacing is egregiously self indulgent.
It’s so masturbatory towards hollywood that I hated it, and I typically love Tarantino’s stuff.
I get Tarantino and the Coen Brothers (both have as many misses as hits), but Wes Anderson and Jim Jarmusch…WTAF?
What’s it like? Just curious, I’ve not been there.
They build us up, only to let us down of an ending. The one time when a blood flood would have been on point and reflected a bit of reality, Q changes the narrative. Because the facts are so well known, the ending could be seen as a bit of self indulgence, playing with and betraying audience expectations. Like most others l was waiting for the payoff and found the ending something of a cop out.
I just found the whole movie disappointing…the reason I liked the last part was that at least something actually happened.
I rate it as, easily, his worst movie.
I was so bored I turned it off half way through. So I guess I missed the best bit. My favourite movie Tarantino was involved in was True Romance. Does it count he didn’t direct it?
I’m not a huge fan but I did enjoy Pulp Fiction and he usually does have good soundtracks.
But there are always parts.
The fight in the movie lot.
DiCaprio beating himself up in his trailer.
There are others.
I felt really good about the ending.
Edit: Tarantino may not always do good movies, but he always does good scenes.
His actors sort of make his scenes (yeh der). Watched pulp fiction for the first time in 20 years and without SLJ the kahuna burger conversation would have been ok, but just providing connective tissue and little else.
His eyes are as cold, dead yet fixed and foreboding as you’ll ever see.
Even the guy that wasn’t supposed to die was fkd.
Yeah, but…he chooses his actors.
I’m sure Waltz was awesome before Tarantino, but I never saw it.
I was extremely shitfaced, and I mean exceptionally… I’m still not sure why the cabbie picked me up… but I got into a taxi down in darling harbour at the turn of the millennium at exactly the same time as QT (he’s not).
It didn’t turn out like one of his movies.
“I’m pretty sure you’re Quentin Tarantino…”
“Yes, correct. What a beautiful city this is…”
I didn’t pass out, and to be honest I wasn’t that overawed but by that stage he’s catalogue was better than fair to middling.
I did ask him about uma though. I remember that bit…
Wow…
I’m still sceptical.
I definitely agree with your last line. Apart from inglorious and reservoir dogs, I can’t stand his other films. But he has definitely made some absolutely amazing scenes
Watched The Honeymoon last night.
Englishman Adam and his American bride Sarah are about to embark on the romantic honeymoon of a lifetime in Venice, Italy. But when the newlyweds’ trip is gatecrashed by Adam’s excessively needy best friend, Ed, it inadvertently turns their perfect lovers’ holiday into a complete disaster.
So bad, it was good.
IMDB rating: 4.1/10
National Treasure - Nick Cage
Had to finish it last night with 30minutes to go. It’s something of an embarrassing colonial history lesson meets davinci code.
Cage is at his creepiest best, which seems to be just when he is playing himself.
Will finish it off tonight, but it’s no Fave Off.
I wouldn’t bother if l were you. I remember starting to watch it and found it was so ridiculous l had to turn it off.
That’s a particular trope that I’m way past giving a ■■■■ about. I can’t stand the useless mate, who couldn’t get a root in a brothel, encouraging his more normal mate, who had a partner, to try stupid ploys. ■■■■ off the useless mate.
To my mind, it ruined 2 series I’ve recently finished, De Brutas Nada and Como Sobrevivir Soltero. And it was all over The Inbetweeners.
Save the Cinema. Awesome little movie!
7.5/10.
Based on a true story of a small Welsh town who fights to save their much loved theatre from developers who want to turn it into a shopping centre. A very enjoyable 1hr 45mins. Mostly unheralded actors, however there are a few nice cameos. Mainly shot on location and in the actual theatre where this played out in real life back in the early nineties.
I really enjoy the national treasure movies. Good adventure, puzzle solving, good action/ chases, plenty of funny moments. Hope they make a 3rd
