At the movies - From the couch

This was farking good. A little long, but it had me glued. Enough ‘WTF is going on?’ moments. First class acting.

It’s not an all time classic, and I might not watch it again, but very good 9/10

Certainly a head scratcher and I thought similar, until I watched it again last year. Some great performances.

Glad you liked it! Can’t go wrong with a good thriller

I guess I’d overlooked him as an actor. But he’s got something about him.

Just right. Doesn’t over acts

Child’s Play -

Surprisingly I’d never seen this. At about 80 minutes, it’s pretty short, so I just skipped a few bits. It would be a good 40 minute horror.

The pitter patter of little plastic doll feet across the floor had me giggling tho.

The Great Escaper
Michael Caine, Glenda Jackson
Bernie (Caine) is a 90yo WW2 vet who finds out that he missed out on a place on an organised tour to the 70th Anniversary D-Day Celebrations in France.
He lives in a nursing home with his wife Rene(Jackson).
Bernie decides to go it alone and heads off for France.
Based on a true story, this is one of those nice little low cost English films.
Well worth watching (imo) 7.5/10

Too slow.

Some good blood squirting effects, and some neat landscapes.

Edit: actually the soundtrack is pretty good. 5.5/10

The scene where Chucky comes to life after Andy’s mom threatens to throw him in the fire is ■■■■■■■ hilarious.

Not a great movie by any stretch, but it is entertaining.

Don’t forget ‘Culture Club’ and 'Learning to be John"

i recently watched “love on delivery”, an early one from stephen chow (the man behind kung fu hustle and shaolin soccer)

stupidly funny. like, very stupidly funny.

doubly so if you know your hong kong action movie tropes

just watch this scene and tell me you don’t want to know more. it’s not even the climactic scene, its about a third of the way in

Jarhead - Jake Gyllenhaal

I wasn’t really a fan of the macho US Marine culture portrayed in the movie, but I guess that’s the point.

Anyway it does what it says on the box, but wasn’t my cup of tea.

5/10

live action lilo and stitch, lets go

Just about done with war and military movies for now.

Platoon - 7/10

Not sure I like this as much as Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket. It’s hard to take Sheen seriously, and whilst some of the fighting looks ok, sound quality of poor.

One thing that’s bogged me about all these movies though, and I could head over to the annoying thread…

In all these war movies. When they land at the base they show them getting out of the aircraft and there’s PEOPLE AND TRUCKS EVERYWHERE!!! I mean, I’ve never been on a military base, but dozens of guys just marching on the tarmac between planes, choppers and jeeps and vehicles just buzzing around. Then someone they’ve never met that looks senior enough will casually say ‘come with me!’

One of the things you missed with coming to this movie 35+ years after it’s release is how “in your face” it was…not only to the viewers, but also to the US Military and Government.

We’re used to that now but at the time, it was unusual…and Platoon was one of the first to do so.

To me, it’s one of the best war movies ever made.
