At the movies - From the couch

Oh no, I don’t want to watch it for the first time in anything other than a cinema.

I like him in Sea of Love, which is a great movie.

Aren’t you missing the point? West Side Story is a musical comedy, with a tragic end, that’s true, but a musical comedy nonetheless. It’s not supposed to be gritty and realistic. It’s supposed to be flashy and showy and bright.

I very much doubt that I’ll watch Spielberg’s version of it. I can’t stand his movies and all their schmaltz. I literally cringe thinking of what he could do to West Side Story.

A musical comedy about gangs, a turf war, knives, guns, melees and Dance!

You forgot true love and suicide.

And jazz hands!

The appeal of musicals is completely lost on me, and stuff like Hamilton, CATS & Dear Evan Hanson is not really persuading me otherwise.

I have never really liked musicals. I did however enjoy Sweeney Todd and I loved The Greatest Showman( loved the story and the music)

Sweeney Todd is fine, it leans so heavily into gothic horror that its tolerable, I doubt purist would even claim it as a musical. Last Burton film I could finish.

I won’t watch any movie with musical numbers in it.

Fair enough. Musicals aren’t for everybody, I saw moulin rouge and hated every second of it( didn’t help that I can’t stand Nicole Kidman)

The producers was absolute trash- didn’t help that I thought it was a will Ferrell comedy, I didn’t realise it was a musical when I sat down in the cinemas…

My GF always laughs, because I despise when people go from talking into singing. I just cannot stand it.

“We really need to get this done”

(Music starts)

"WE NEED TO GET THIS DONE!!! YES WE DO!!!" (singing)

even billy madison?

I’ll allow ironic musical numbers.

I’m more talking about musicals.

I can never get into them.

I :purple_heart: them - usually.

I’m not saying I am right, btw.

I am probably not cultured enough to get them.

West Side Story is the only musical l love, but l wouldn’t call it a comedy apart from one number (sung to Officer Krupke). It is a romance, and with an ending lifted straight out of Romeo & Juliet.

Not looking forward to a remake of this outstanding movie. There are some films that should never be remade because they got it right the first time, and this is one of them.

Amadeus? Absolute classic and a personal favourite, not sure it’s really a musical tho

F Murray Abraham smashes it out of the park
