Honestly, of the five nominated films I've seen I'd have ToE dead last.
That is, below
Birdman
Whiplash
Imitation
Sniper
And I’d have Redmayne near last as well.
If people think he displayed any sort of emotional range in that film then I don’t know what they’re watching. Cumberbatch gave a better performance and that guy basically has one look.
Mostly are with you, but I though ToE was pretty good (I’m a big hawking fan so probably a little bias, and that Redmayne did a good job of showing his slow decline) and while I really enjoyed Birdman I though at times it tried a little too hard to be arty, when it didn’t need to, whiplash was the biggest surprise because it is the opposite to Birdman in that it just made a great film out of a simple story. It’s intersting, I would go
Whiplash
Initiation game
Birdman
ToE
Sniper
The best actor is where it gets really tricky
Cumberbach does a great job, but he is just being him, being a great actor.
Redmayne will probably win it because the panel love someone playing a disability
Keaton is very good but looses to Norton as the best performance of that film
The whiplash kid is great also but jk Simmons is better
Copper is great but I don’t think he was better than any of the other guys
So I think Redmayne will win it for degree of difficulty

Redmayne will win. His performance tops all those actors in degree of difficulty as well as range.
Cumberbatch was probably second best and closely followed by Keaton.
I would personally love to see Keaton win but don’t think his performance tops Redmayne’s.
Sony has been in financial trouble for some time now and after the leaks last year the rumors were confirmed. From what I’ve read, Sony will still be in control of the character but will be having him appear in one marvel film as well as Sony’s own stand alone movies.
I’m just so excited to see Spiderman in the MCU. The Captain America: Civil War involving Spiderman will be awesome. Its a complete win for us fans.
I saw Birdman on Saturday and liked it. There were moments when I felt like getting up and walking out, but every time I got to that point something happened to hook me again. I didn't actually find Michael Keaton's performance as good as many others have done; I was always conscious that he was Michael Keaton acting a part. Ed Norton was great as always, and the other supports were all excellent too.
One thing I liked a lot was the cinematography. Normally I hate the hand-held camera, but in this film it was much steadier and therefore easy to watch than normal. The whole single-take thing was done extremely well, so well in fact that it was hardly noticeable unless you were looking at it, and quite unlike the film a couple of years ago set in the Hermitage museum in St Petersburg which actually done all in a single take and was almost unwatchable. The colours and lighting in Birdman were really spectacular too.
I have no idea what the film all added up to in the end and I suspect that in fact it didn’t add up to all that much, but it was a fun ride.
I doubt it. It's been panned by nearly everyone of note.
I went an saw the UK TV policemen’s get-together, What I Did on My Holiday, with David Tennant (Broadchurch), Ben Miller (Death in Paradise) and Amelia Bullmore (Scott and Bailey) together with the Big Yin (Billy Connolly) and the gorgeous Rosamund Pyke (Gone Girl).
Doug (Tennant) and Abi (Pyke) are heading up to the Highlands with their 3 kids for his father’s (Yin’s) 75th birthday. They’re about to divorce so it’s causing some issues and the kids (10, 6 and 4) are not taking it well. They want to make out to Grandpa they’re still OK. His 75th birthday is tomorrow and Gavin (Miller) and Margaret (Bullmore) are holding the shindig. Grandpa’s very sick with cancer and isn’t all that likely to see 76. Gavin has a massive stick up his ■■■■ and is a pedant after my own heart (he tells his wife off during the preparations for the party for a misplaced apostrophe in the parking signs).
Gordie is an ex-Scotland player (one game vs Cyprus) and wants to take the kids down the beach. They have a great old time until he, sort of, dies, and that’s where the fun starts.
I enjoyed it but I doubt too many here will bust a boiler to watch it.
American Sniper was good (4/5, although Mrs AD Don gives it 2 snores out of five). I felt it suffered from not really knowing what kidn of film it was. It did a good but not great job of highlighting the psychological effects of war (Hurt Locker springs to mind as a film which does better on this front) and the action scenes were fine but lacked a certain sense of intensity, interest and chaos (again Hurt Locker was better at this as was Lone Survivor). Not helped by Cooper’s character having practically no emotional range. Good film but a bit disappointed as I expected more.
