It’s either ■■■■■ who eat out but aren’t simply grateful that someone else is cooking them a meal or people who want to treat a restaurant as a pub and get ■■■■ faced.
If I have to spend a lot of time on hold, it’s better than a repeated jingle, I guess. If I am wandering the hallowed halls of Westfield it is preferable to New Radicals “Music in You” (as is death).
But damn, it’s… plain. Like a youth pastor acoustic version of actual psychedelic rock.
Imagine if Bruce Springsteen’s entire catalogue had been performed by Neil Diamond.
Very harsh, most of that list is fair game. You can love this country and your life in it and still criticise its superficial culture. Shouting down criticism from within leads to arrested development, and you get mainstream America.
You geddit. I love it here and sure I put a lot on the table in the above post but sometimes it’s also the things that make you go meh or “I dunno” make up the essence of this place however you feel about them or not.
Having lived abroad in a non English speaking country and travelled a bit (not a heap) mostly in western countries but also a couple where they’re happy just to have drinking water, reshaped some of my views about how we reflect, or perceive ourselves in an insular way and some of the folklore, the ruminating, the cliches, the lies but also the things that are great which we take for granted or underestimate. This is not unique to us either of course. Neither is having historically having blood on our hands sadly but the settlers who played a part in shaping where we are both good and bad ways.
Anyhow, don’t wanna derail Simmo’s handiwork by being too serious, it’s an escape thread. Probably best for another thread but yesterday morning my job brought me here, the sun was out, the air was fresh, myself and my non verbal pilot had big smiles on our faces, it took millions of years to form this cove and we have an abundance of this.
