There is very little government can do in a free market economy to affect house prices.
Morrison had the opportunity to do something about supply with his ridiculous homekeeper or builder or whatever where he should have funded the states to produce more social and affordable housing.
Instead he threw money at people who were already going to build (of which I was one) and people who were already going to renovate. Complete waste of what could have been.
They certainly can turbocharge it though. At the very least, implement policy that creates additional demand and price value increases. Thats what both sides proposed in reality.
Iâve come to the conclusion that the LNP will not win another federal election ever. Too hard to comeback from 40-45 seats. It would take a major major fark up by Labor for this to occur. I canât see it happening.
Donât agree BigA. Both thought they were too clever to need anyone else, and as hard as my Comrades tried to work with Kev, his head was too big to fit in with others.
Poor is relative. Sure, I have witnessed the poor in PNG, Africa, India, and in this country.
Not every hotel broker is rich, and while Turnbulls father improved his business success over time, initially they were short of cash, but wanted the best education for the kid until his mother left. I suffered the same type of situation myself when my old man shot through on my mother and left her with 4 kids, we lived off her pitiful typist wages, however fortunately we were allowed to live in one of grandpas many houses rent free. But make no mistake, we ate tripe and pea soup most nights and chops about once a week from when I was 3 years old until I managed to win a scholarship to Uni and get a living allowance.
I can relate to Turnbull to some extent but as I said, many see him as a toff.
Builders should be encouraged one way or another, financially or with easier planning permission or whatever to build smaller houses with larger rooms, that can be added to later. I remember one of the builders in Melbourne back in the day had plans that you could build two bedrooms and you had the plans and planning permission to add to it later. Allowed people to buy what they could afford and add to it later.
But most new estates have covenants. And often they require quite large houses. I know even where I built (a small subdivision of eight blocks) I was supposed to have 200 sqr mtrs. I got them to agree to 190 which meant I could afford a pool.
The you look at a country like New Zealand and yes it had teething problems but itâs working pretty well.
I think everyone getting a say on the issue close to them is better than just this is what it is and bad luck.
Either way it wonât change so all I have to say about that is FARK CARLTON
Well, neither of them considered they needed a faction.
The Queenslanders warned me about Rudd. For them, he was a micro manager and not prepared to work with anyone.
I knew he was a hater when he blocked a colleagueâs post ( low level First Secretary in a relatively unimportant post) for no reason at all. This waa when a PM really only got involved in postings at very high level, usually to park a former politician.
I was interested to hear people in the US corroborate personal comments I am hearing about Australian GenZ kids. Many do not want to work apparently, its all a bit too hard, when you can make so much being an influencer on social media, or doing private streaming performances LOL
Iâll take a stab and say theyâll probably go with Larissa Waters.
Sheâs in the senate and from Queensland. From the Qld perspective, having her on the news a lot might help in the effort for the Greens to get back those inner city Brisbane seats they lost.
Also, with the Greens power now being just in the senate (even if they do get one or two in the house of reps), itâll probably be better having someone from the senate team fronting the press outlining what they want for each Government item to pass.
Agree with that, but all the PMs that I have known were micromanagers. Rudyâs problem was that he is really clever and refused to listen to anyone else as he was always correct.
I am sure you have felt the presence of great people when they enter a room. In Goughs case, it was when he entered the building, Hawke and Keating filled room with presence, so did Julia to a lesser extent. Never felt that with Rudd.
Yes I find it interesting when opinion writers try to compare generations.
There is no comparison. My parents started work at 13. Now we wouldnât want anything like that for kids today.
However it meant by the time they were in their early twenties theyâd been working ten years with associated wages and savings.
Kids today would be lucky if they have been working ten years by the time they reach 30. Itâs why there has to be another way other than saving for a house deposit. In many cases itâs just not feasible.
And the fact that keeping wages low was a deliberate strategy of the LNP over ten or more years hasnât helped.
Itâs always been about wages not keeping pace imo.
The LNP deserves everything that is coming to them.
The gift that keeps on giving. Iâm sure thereâs more than a few federal Libs who instinctively know this policy must be ditched. They need to grow a pair and stop allowing the Nats to dictate energy policy as occurred during the Abbot-Turnbull-Morrison era.
As for Morrison and all his Ministries, Rudd tried to run every portfolio without being sworn in. Weâd get rumours that he was tryng to nullify any contenders, at one stage it was Tony Burke.
It became operationally unsustainable. It was dreadful to see Penny Wong deadpanning it in Parliament, there was a whole of government policy free zone.
After such a great start.
Not to mention a definite feeling she shat the bed with the Maga pics and slogans. Been pointed to as a pivotal moment. They wouldâve been walloped anyway but howâs that self reflection Jacinta? Maybe no more pics with the skeevy looking partner either, I vote NO more of those.
if you think that only started 3 years ago and wasnât majorly influenced by world events , and not much by local policy your not much of a thinker.
if you think itâs all local policy , which government policies caused this to happen ? explain in detail
