Australian Policies -- from 2025 Federal election

The world has gone mad. There is no in-between party to vote for, they are all extreme left or extreme right. This is all because there is no compromise. Each have a view and the opposite view is dismissed despite it having some credence.

I think this part is essentially correct. ON are largely a grievance party in the same manner as Reform in the UK. Vote for us and we’ll fix everything you don’t like, whatever those concerns are. The reality, of course, is that they don’t (and probably will never) have the policy platform or the wherewithal to begin to fix anything.

Honestly, I expect better of Six News.
That was a ridiculous take on that polling.

If it’s to be trusted at all, and I’d very strongly suggest it’s not, it doesn’t tell us anything we don’t already know. And it Doesn’t suggest ON ‘are within striking distance of being the opposition party.’

But just to re-emphasise that this is an exaggerated take on what was obvious, here’s how that election supposedly plays out.

Basically, the ALP win a seat from the Greens, and a few More from the LNP.
And the Liberals, Nationals, and ON tear each other apart in the pursuit of rural and regional seats.

I mean…broadly, that is not a particularly hot take.

Believable if it is a “stuff the lot of you / pox on both your houses” vote. But yes, hard to believe at that level of support.

Edit: a grievance party, as @CalDon says above.

I’d forgotten about this one :frowning:

I’ll bite.

Who, pray tell, are the extreme parties that you’re referring to?

Greens <-------------> ON

All of them

I have issues with both parties but calling them extreme is a stretch IMO.

In talking strictly mainstream they are.

If we widen it open to the fringes we’re looking at the loontics socialist parties and the zealots in something like family first.

I have my issues with the Greens, which are mainly about how they keep shooting themselves in the foot, but describing them as extreme, or as far left as ON are right, is silly.
I guess being the only (majorish) party that isn’t a shill for overseas energy companies makes them stand out a bit, but by gosh…that shouldn’t be an extreme position.

I do think it’s interesting that the ALP are the only centrist option.
The Greens are obviously left, but they’re hardly strident.
Are the Teals still more Blue than Red? I dunno…I’m thinking the further the Liberal Party go nutbag right, the closer to the ALP the Teals become.

There’s gotta be people out there who think the ALP is too corporate. Surely? Surely there’s a lot?

Edit: I mean, I suppose on the colour chart and in reality the Teals are Blue-Green, but the question stands.

Only the poors.
Except for the poors that the richies decided they personally needed.

No it wasn’t the poors. Mrs hambo managed many top end apartments in the city and they fled leaving lots of sweet bits and pieces behind which I pilfered.

There is no “extreme left” party with any seats in any Australian parliament!

I doubt there is even any party that is more than “just a little bit left”.

He knows, it’s just a coping mechanism now that the right ‘leaning’ parties here and internationally are steaming toward their logical end states and returning to the dark mother’s teat. “Yeah but what about those mad socialists asking for rent control and funded school lunch programs for koalas!?”

Yes there are, Lefty’s just can’t see it.

People on the Left are pretty good at seeing things.

Just a small example is spotting incorrect use of apostrophes.

I heartily agree with this.

One of the reasons I’m cooler on the Greens these days. Oh, you don’t like mining superprofits? That’s good. I agree. It’s a disgrace and the sign of a dumb nation to give away it’s valuable resource to multinationals and get no return.

So I assume your policy is to nationalise the stuff they extract?

Nah.
