Australian Politics -- from 2022 Federal Election

Or a lot of bought off tradies and 2nd/3rd holiday home owners

I imagine he’s primarily about getting the youth vote.

ALP give in and accept another debate in a hostile territory, will the press ask why PM is running scared of the people’s broadcaster, particularly when its board has been stacked with figures with vested interests in keeping his party in power?

Anthony Albanese and Scott Morrison will face each other in a second election debate to be broadcast on Nine on 8 May, according to the network.

The hour-long debate will take place on Sunday, May 8 at 8:30pm at Nine’s Sydney studios. It will be broadcast on the network’s main free-to-air channel, streaming service Nine Now and the websites of The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.

The pair first debated each other in Brisbane on 20 April, which was broadcast by Sky News. Albanese was chosen as winner of the election forum by an audience of undecided voters, receiving 40% of votes to Morrison’s 35%.

And Young Libs keeping it classy as ever. Yes, I know there’s been awful stuff from other sources.

Also from the presser in Perth, from Shorten…

ALP promising a Royal Commission into robodebt. Will hopefully be set up by the end of the year, with terms of reference to be determined in consultation with stakeholders (etc etc)

Hallelujah!!! I’m so pleased the ALP is going to pursue this scandal and have not squibbed it as they’ve done before on other matters. There needs to be consequences for this outrageous abuse of power. Shorten would also seem to be the ideal one to push this, having been involved from the beginning.

Scomo one of the architects of this particularly nasty attack on the most vulnerable Australians if I’m not wrong. Could put an extra bit of Engadine spice into the curry

Wondering about this.
When asked if ALP would match it, Chalmers said ALP focus was on cost of living relief, which way it could be best delivered ( like childcare etc)
Australia has enjoyed a good reputation for negotiated arrangements with Big Pharma for PBS items at reasonable prices, with some trade off concessions.
I’ve lost touch with how the purchasing system works.
Maybe ALP is looking at the system as a whole ( has uncovered rorts) , as compared to a $10 pp a month subsidy for some prescription medicines?

People hate paying for drugs/pills
even a lot of people that are just too wealthy for a pension but qualify for a seniors health care card appreciate the savings

Apart from the means tested eligible for a health concession card, you’d have to spend an awful lot per year on prescription medicines before you qualify for concessions on the next lot of prescriptions.
Govt stopped the rort of super not being counted as income for concession card purposes.
It has pulled some PBS swifties, lowering price of some on prescription, taking some off discounted prices if on prescription ( like ventolin).

Agree, they didn’t address the specific question. Strong hints, though, that something is being saved for the launch.

Not to mention the incompetent Stuart Robert and Paul Fletcher. Didn’t Tudge have some involvement also?

Odd that none of those excellent chaps have been campaigning much lately

Medication in Australia has to be some of the lowest in the world, but sure, take another $10 off.

Now, about those rapes and prostitutes in Parliament House.

post lies, face no consequences - current state of Aus politics

There has been criticism of skewing in subsidies for asthma medication - leading to puffer alleviators ( which can be purchased off prescription) being vastly cheaper than preventers for twice daily use on prescription being up to three times the price and less subsidised.

Of our money mind you.

Tax payer money.

Pleased to say I reported it.

I mean…apart from anything else, the man’s voice they gave Wong was super Farking offensive.

But conservatives gonna conservative.

Except now you need to keep it to yourself. If an older person tells a young lady how nice she looks, it is considered harassment by many. Sometimes I think it is a very sad world when you cannot compliment without it being seen as predatory.

I had similar doubts until advised by a person who works at PH that it is all very true.
