Does a law need to be?
People are sacked all the time for doing things which are adverse to the interests of their employer but are not illegal.
As a tax payer of nsw it is not in our interest too
I think thatâs the âNoâ argument though.
Want more information, so they can slowly pick it apart.
Just vote yes, it ainât going to make much difference to many people.
Coutts-Trotter, long-standing husband of Plibersek, has the top public service job in NSW as Secretary of Premier and Cabinet. He is doing the Barilaro Inquiry.
Barbarilo probably would do a good job as a Trade Commissioner, so not sure you can call him a second rate candidate. The mistake they made was not going through a process and appointing him. Liberals are always arrogant.
Kim Beasley and Joe Hockey were both US Ambassadors and each did a good job.
He literally came second.
He wasnât the best. Was in the paper(leaked documents) which identified at least 2 other superior choices.
The other thing is the position was moved at his bequest because he didnât like the idea of living in Los Angeles.
Donât blame him. LA is a cesspit.
I lived in SF for three months and that was bad enough.
Reckon I would choose NY or Boston.
The job was posted as LA. The entire office was moved for him
Is he there to serve the people of NSW or his own interests?
They are there to do the job for the State,
If the job demands a high ranking former politician who can engage with Governments at a post and has a hot line to the Government back home, sure.
The problem was that, after letting State offices overseas lapse because of duplication , they were reintroduced as appointments requiring people with business acumen who could persuade investors on the commercial viability of shifting business to NSW. The justification for the Government to find some money in the budget in a revised policy, with appointments made through a competitive process at arms length from the pollies.
What might have been a good idea at the time got corrupted.
Then Barilaro , who was under some pressure to leave politics, decided he wanted to live in New York, the decision was made that the appointments process was to be converted to Ministerial decision sign off ( the âpresentâ for Barilaro and an incentive for him to quit Government):
We do twice as much trade inbound and outbound from California than we do New York.
If I was to choose one other location other than LA(and I wouldnât) it would be Chicago.
Pork Barilaroâs appointment is a complete joke.
Would all this have come out if not for the pesky YouTuber? It feels like friendly horsies kept this guy in the news long enough for the MSM to start to have a whif
In my view our Trade Offices should all be in Washington. That is where all the action is in USA. It has nothing to do with where trade originates.
For USG trade policy, but not for other aspects of trade, including in States whose policies are relevant to access , in addition to engagement with commercial enterprises in the States.
Getting Hollywood to make films here wasnât achieved through Washington contacts.
I think Gladys going down over pork barrelling with ICAC and the smell of John Barilaro resigning at the same time.
But yeah think it certainly helped
This.
The US afaik is not like australia where government is seemingly involved in everythingâŚ
Yes it was
My experience as someone who has started a business in USA if that using Austrade and their US Counterparts at Federal and State levels is the easiest way to get contacts and access.
Without introduction it is much more difficult.
