On Insiders, ABC showed a comparative chart of Australia’s defence and aid spending, spike in defence spending, almost off the charts, aid constant, way down low.
And Australia under Julie Bishop abolished the independent Aid agency, lost heaps in specialist expertise of people who were the most informed of events and conflict triggers in SE Asia and the Pacific, including the importance attached to ethnic and Chinese government investment in SE Asia and the Pacific - what happens when Defence Ministers and agencies determine Australia’s foreign policy and swallow up the Budget, when others have cut backs, to the detriment of Australia’s strategic security interests.
The US also lost a lot when its government dropped the funding of US tertiary scholarships for SE Asians.
Inept by whose definition though? Ask Fighterbomber and he’ll tell you it’s been excellent policy for the weapons industry and rich ■■■■■ getting richer out of boondoggles benefits us all, Jack

Crikey has done a fact check of a Liberal Party election promo of ‘The Facts’. According to Crikey , of the 9 ‘Facts’, eight of them are either deceptive or lies. No one in the MSM ( including ABC) appears to have addressed this.
Notice how the Coalition is keeping its Nat and Liberal election campaign policies distinct from each other?
When the Deputy PM has zero influence in a Minister’s discretion to bring the Sri Lankan family back to Biloela or grant them visas, particularly at a time of conflict in Sri Lanka. …
But hey, Nats can determine Lib climate change policy.
We have large contracts with the ADF and that falls under my domain so have a lot of interaction with ADF personnel and ASC staff and whilst they will admit there has been mistakes made along the way they are pretty happily overall with how things are going. There is always opportunity to trim the fat and streamline things. The ADF does waste a bit of money on logistics but they won’t listen to experts
You can guarantee it’ll be 3 decades if the LNP gets back in
Environmental policies?
No, more rorts!
The Morrison government’s promise to spend $7.4bn building a series of new dams is probably “the biggest pork barrel in history,” says the author of new research that claims other investment would deliver significantly better economic outcomes and more jobs.
The report by the Australia Institute said the vast majority of new spending on water infrastructure had been “allocated to where the National party vote is highest, not where the agricultural potential is highest”.
Not every day but every hour a new gut kick. It must be nice to just roll over in bed and think of your franking credits. Get your heart attack from too much ■■■■■■■ bacon instead of having it broken 10 times a day.
It’s become blase to the point of entrenched party policy. In a similar vein to Napthine signing secret contracts at the eleventh hour, the LNP is booby-trapping the economy with corruption before they’re kicked out of office.
Retrospective ICAC needs to be the first bill tabled immediately upon ALP taking office. And if they lose, well - I’m outta here
Depends how much power it’s given to refer, investigate and prosecute. But you’re right, I’m fully expecting a paper tiger to be the end result of whatever draft bill ends up being produced.
If it does have teeth, well…might be an interesting few years of continual referrals on past MPs. LNP might end up tied up in publicity scandals for years
australians dont care about track record, if they vote a labor leader it just needs to be someone that orates well and can get behind. albo is well, albo and branding him as albo is a weak response to ‘scomo’
