It’s what happens when you change game plans.
I was about to like your post right before reading your last line!
While I like the idea, love a bit of romance, it’s such an unknown as to what that would create for us distraction wise it wouldn’t be funny.
X is balls deep in the AFL and will have made so many assurances it won’t happen I think it’s dead before it even gets in the water.
Fair, but it’s a big IF. FWIW I think Truck will be our coach for the long haul and next season we will start to see some real green shoots in the team he’s built.
I think, like Carlton, there’s one more card that needs to fall and it’s the joker at the top of the pack in Campbell.
LaGuadoice (or whatever da faq) was just as useless as X but sayers took over and realised he needed a Brian Cook so he could step out of the way.
X doesn’t what to step out of the way. He’s not even the joker in the pack. He’s the instructions card you throw out at the start.
EDIT: Just do add to this, if there’s no way to get Campbell out at the end of the year, where do you go from here? I’m just not paying up next year, irrespective of wether we finish with a bang or not.
We’ve genuinely got the right people in the footy department, we don’t in the people that support the footy department department.
And they’ve set it up so the only ones that can sack them are themselves.
Wellman, if you’re reading this, remember how you’d grumble when bizarre directives came down from that department when you played?
That happens a lot at present I’d wager. That’s on you. Your mate Campbell is a spud.
I guess death warrant or not, he will be coaching us next year.
The way you speaks seems to claim that you KNOW he will be coaching Essendon next year. I don’t think there is any certainty. In fact unless we finish strongly for the remainder of the year then it may be more likely he will be replaced.
Rutten will coach us next year and after round 6 all the talk will be about who will coach us next. It will be another wasted year because that is what we do.
Or he gets sacked this year and Clarkson takes over.
Clarkson will not coach Eessendon. They wilkl never appoint someone who rocks the boat.
3 timelines…
Clarkson(2023) , Clarkson(2024) , Clarkson(2025) - Make the call now
Truck(2023) , Truck(2024) , Truck(2025) - Stay the course (success (hope))
Truck(2023) , Buckley(2024) , Buckley(2025) - Stay the course (Failure)
You can just about place your house on it. I am not a Rutten fan but the club will not do a back flip on him. If we win a couple more games, they will reiterate we are on the right track. Nothing surer.
Don’t let 1 win shape your thinking.
I’ll put my money here. I’ll look forward to seeing if this happens or not.
We finish the year with 2-3 more wins.
Start next year poorly again. We have this form for the last 4 years without fail.
Rutten is sacked mid season and we need a new coach anyway.
We miss out on Clarkson and wish we would have moved on him now. He’s now by mid next year coaching someone else.
When the best coach (who has a proven record) of the modern era is available. You move.
There are too many people (board and CEO) who’s life at the club depend on Rutten being successful. We are tainted.
Ben Rutten may be a good coach but I’ll take Clarkson thanks.
Also… one thing X understands is $$ and our crowds have been horrible this year. Membership will be down a lot next year . Rutten is boring and speaks in riddles. He isn’t a good media performer. He doesn’t make anyone want to go to games.
The last thing this struggling Club needs is sacking a coach mid season. We have enough problems now without adding to them. They need to make the hard decisions at the end of the year and stick with them. It will either be a pass or a fail.
Noted
How the ■■■■ did Mark Neeld get a job at Essendon again?
I reckon a ‘proven coach’ is one that has taken different lists, of different make-ups, to success.
The only one I can think of right now is Matthews - and that was 20 years ago. Multi-Premiership captain, then premiership coach 2nd club, followed by premiership coach 3rd club. Would it have worked in today’s game? We’ll never know - but he’s the closest it’s come.
Malthouse came close, but that was way too long ago. There have been many great coaches - however to my mind, that does not make them ‘proven’ to have success with a different club, a different list and resources and a different era.
That’s an incredibly harsh judgment of what constitutes a “proven” coach and as you said probably only Mick comes close to that
So, firstly I apologise for the name calling …
What I should have said is that what you were saying was hypocritical.
It was wrong to say that you were a hypocrite.
I get that you don’t care to read or discuss.
That is your prerogative.
May I suggest you could also extend that to: comment either.
Like to throw your two cents in but then back away and take no further part at the time of your choosing.
To me that could be categorised as a display of ignorance.
Please Note I am not calling you ignorant.
The crux of my message was not as you put it…
It was that Ben Rutten as a speaker and motivator is dull, uninteresting and unlikely to influence people. The body language of the audience Cleary showed at best boredom or disinterest.
So my attempt to inject a degree of humour in a more passionate dissertation was perhaps overly theatrical in trying to make a point that you need to engage with your audience, capture their attention, and resonate with something they can connect with.
The response I get is largely to focus on the overly theatrical aspect and criticise and laugh And ridicule.
“Really…that’s a ■■■■ comment imo… Carry on with you Rah Rah Rah Rah Punch holes in the wall Yell at everyone Punch another hole and yell some more Works a treat these days”
meh … whatever
So your point was that Ben’s approach is professional and appropriate for the workplace and a more passionate / over the top approach was so obviously absurd.
In contrast the very same type of passionate / over the top behaviour is what you see in players in the work place all the time.
So they respond well to one another with a “Fck Yeah” mentality, but they couldn’t possibly respond to a coach that reached into those primal emotional triggers.
Of course not …. That isn’t appropriate professional behaviour for the work place.
Meh …. Carry on as you see fit, but if you can’t see the hypocrisy in that …
Live in bliss.
What show is that? I can’t find it on Foxtel EPG
Lethal would be one of the other ones with a changing era with different clubs and “proven” coach:
1990 Pies GF win
2001 Lions
Although it is obviously further back.
