Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 2)

Where’s Nino’s opinion on all of this?

He only wants a BBM

The handover between Malthouse and Buckley was struck in 2009. They signed Malthouse to a 5 year contract, 2 years as senior coach and another 3 as Director of Football, and did a similar thing with Bucks, having him as assistant from 2010-11 and taking over as senior coach 2012 onwards. Pretty sure he was very high on North’s list when Laidley departed, and that probably forced Eddie to act…

Man I am depressed.
The one thing we do know ist that there is a good body of evidence that show we have not progressed in any meaningful way, except for some quality additions over the last couple of years, presumably nothing to do with the coach.

What we don’t appear to have is any clear consensus on where to from here.
I suspect the club internally is gripped with decision paralysis and refuse to make any decision until it’s get made for them.

There is huge division in here on Clarko,
He is either the next best or worst thing.

Yeah but Malthouse didn’t want to honour it, quote peeved about it apparently. It got fairly ugly really, a few burnt bridges.

Divided on Clarko, united on Clako.

So your saying he was cooked after Carlton but not before…ok.

Yeah that’s pretty ■■■■ percentage of success.

Let’s not forget that when Malthouse landed at Carlton he’d been the senior coach at 3 different clubs for 29 years straight.

Clarko was at Hawthorn for 16 years

Glad it’s your money, cos Stuart Dew was about 120kg his first pre season with hawthorn.

This guy might have something to say about that

Can’t tell if Rutten terrible or if

Stringer
Langford
Jones
Snelling

Are integral parts of our team and we sucked in the early part of the year because we didn’t have them or Tippa, that’s 5 of our 6 starting forwards from last year.

Our lack of a forward line definitely contributed. Most of our injuries seemed to be in the one line area at the start of the season.

That still doesn’t excuse our poor defensive efforts. Something that Rutten has been trying (and failing) to improve since 2019.

Any chance all this CLUKO and other coach talk can be moved to another thread like Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 2) or just start another thread for it.

Sick of jumping into this thread and have to scroll past ■■■■ loads of post about everything other than Rutten’s coaching.

This is the most likely outcome. It would be a very brave choice to move on Truck this year and get Clarko.
Most likely if we miss finals again next year Truck will be stood down with Clarko unavailable.

Malthouse won a premiership in 2010, made a GF 2011. In 2013 he took over Fark Carlton.

Clarkson last won or made a GF in 2015 after being gifted an amazing list. That is 7 years ago.

Both had identical exits in ‘voluntarily handing over to former champs’.

How can you say Malthouse and Clarkson scenarios are not the same? Malthouse was older, but he was not anymore washed up than Clarkson is right now.

Clarkson is in the middle of his coaching career, Malthouse was at the very end and the results showed that.
Carlton wanted a big name and that’s all Malthouse turned out to be.

How do you know Clarkson is not at the end of it?

Not sure if serious

Why wouldn’t I be serious? Hindsight showed Malthouse was finished, you don’t have that benefit with Clarkson. Pagan was in a similar boat too.
