I do because it’s contempt how he leads our club as the softest club going around.
It’s an indictment on his attitude towards the performances including his own.
Being a captain means not only huge responsibility but it’s your peers voting you in because you are someone they inspire too, look for guidance, advice and setting an example. Not to mention pride for the jumper
Total agreement. Doing nothing and just hoping things will turn around would be stupid. That’s why I think we have to get bolder with our list management and stop protecting players and overrating them. We have a history of doing this. Right now I’d be calling some agents and getting them to start making enquiries with other clubs.
The older coaches available are no good. Lyon is out of touch with the modern game and Clarkson has absolutely nothing to prove and I question whether he will have the drive to work through a tough period.
I saw that too. I don’t dislike Truck, there’s a good man underneath it all. He’s just not getting results. Would be hard for him, he probably hoped we’d be doing far better than we are.
If you were a young aspiring footballer, would you really be wanting to hang around with this rudderless, soft, touch football team? I doubt it. The look on Perkins face every week makes me think he wants out already. Hope I’m wrong.
Totally agree. I think Heppell has been a wonderful player for the club and he’s a great clubman, but he’s not a captain. And unfortunately, it starts with him. My observations are that his positive and upbeat leadership style seems to have been imposed upon other leaders within the group. I can only assume that the feedback systems associated with that sort of leadership style is that everyone is his/the groups mate. That style isn’t going to drive success or create strong standards because a mate gets away with a lot of things. I hope I’m wrong, but the results on field when things aren’t working out, speak for themself I reckon.
There’s a long way to go this season but the Suns would be stupid to move Dew on at the moment. They are finally looking half decent and likely to improve further.
Nathan Buckley has, this weekend, ruled himself out of coaching in 2023. Not that I think he would be even be interested in Essendon or vice versa.
Feel like the narrative with Ross Lyon changes each week. I’m not sure even he knows what he wants.
Clarkson and GWS look a good fit but still a fair bit to play out there as well…
I had a coach and captain that led the exact same way Heppell does
We smiled and laughed at training even after getting belted. We hang around with the oppositions players after getting belted.
We had won 3 flags in our first 70 years (all grades)
We now have over 25. 22 flags in 20 years
They were the nicest blokes you could ever meet.
But they had non negotiables, and we met them, we didn’t agree with them, but we trusted them because they were our leaders (they have both moved on but their legacy lasts as we added another this season gone)
Now if a bunch of amateurs can do that, then a bunch of professionals getting paid a shot load of money should have absolutely no issue doing it.
But they don’t, they are selfish entitled little ■■■■■ imo
