Ben Rutten - Back to the grindstone (Part 2)

Goes back to why they vote a Captain in, he isn’t living up to his responsibilty with his behaviour " Jam it " and leadership endeavour.

If they had toughness and some understanding of game plans and how to motivate players

Time will tell.

Cara would need to turn things around completely as the caretaker coach.

That would be his only shot.

Always does

If I ■■■■ up at work even I have my tail between my legs for a couple of days. I actually hate what this club has become.

If he loses a first year player he is GONE

Yep and I have been mates with all my captains, one is my best mate. Always did what he asked and if I didn’t, I heard about it (but never in front of the playing group)
Again no issue with it what so ever

Hiring a 10 ton crane this time on a Sunday? Cost an arm and a leg!

I couldn’t care if Dew or our next coach was 300kg.

I know it hasn’t always gone right for him up there, but if our players showed the same amount of commitment and hardness as the Suns in 2022 then I would be delighted.

Nothing wrong with being mates, all players in teams are mates, back to the smiling and joking I don’t like it, especially when you are failing on all levels and the club is in a crisis. There’s a time and a place for smiles and jokes.

There is a big difference between the AFL and local football.

Based on a really good fortnight?

After 5 years of being pretty much consistently atrocious?

I’ve gone from thinking there’s no chance he’ll be sacked this year, to now thinking it’s very, very likely.

It’s been a long haul, agreed, but I think they are looking significantly better now than at any stage in the last four years that Dew has been coaching them.

Even in their losses this year - 13 points to Melbourne, 3 goals to St Kilda (in Melbourne) etc … they’ve been far more competitive.

Unlike our average losing margin across 7 games of what? 50 points?

Ross Oakleigh, Glendinning or Noble?

Definitely a big chance. It’s not as if the CEO and Board are going to sack themselves.

… well, yeah. It’s not exactly hard to look significantly better than they’ve looked.

Does that mean Dew was the problem for 4 years, or that he’s the solution this year?
Or neither?

A range of things but perhaps also demonstrates that patience with a coach can reap benefits.

Something apart from the Sheedy era (when he won 15 games in a row in his first season & made a Grand Final in his third season… so clearly wasn’t going to be an issue), this club is notorious for not having.

I think you and @bltn need to attend the game together, help get each other through aftet it goes belly up 5 minutes in.
