Who would have thought that the coach of one of our greatest enemies would be in contention for the coaching job at Essendon! Wow - life is strange at times
Maybe he is. Maybe heās not.
Everyone has an expiry date at an organisation, but i hope weād be looking pretty deeply and broadly , not just assuming Clarko is the only/best solution.
Especially when a major cluster ā ā ā ā at this club is due to a complete lack of broad and due process ever since Sheeds departed.
Tough crowd! OK, then⦠stick with me here, imagine weāre 3-10 and the losses are 10 goal maulingās, where weāve kicked 5 goals. 2MP is being played at full-back, Langford is attending 100% of centre bounces and Heppell, Ham and Cutler have played every game. What about then, huh? Thatād be pretty bad. Right?
Clarkson & friends casually smoking the pipe.
X Campbell:
āThis is our line in the sand moment, a chance to show the competition that we are serious about things.
The 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th appointments that Iāll be making in my failed tenure as CEO are Al Clakson as senior coach, with Ben Rutten taking a senior assistant position in a managed succession plan. Clakson will coach the team with Truck taking press conferences.
Paul Roos will join the team as a director of coaching to provide young Clakson with advice and guidance in a mentoring role.
We will be bringing Neil Craig and Mark Neeld back into the organisation in a dual footy manager / robotic process automation role. The aim will be to automate all coaching by 2029 through purposeful innovation.
In order to see this through Iām announcing that my own role has been extended forever.ā
do i think clarko would be set up for success if nothing else changes ? yes because iād back him in to make the right calls when needed. he literally spent the better part of 10 years with a ā ā ā ā president trying to sack him FFS.
but yes also agree changes need to be made.
but you do realise 3 of those roles, ceo, president and iām guessing head of football were on ruttens side, what do you think they appointed him without any sort of process for the hell of it ?
They are the ones who got him the gig, backed him in, have LOWERED the bar of what is expected to be so low that you couldnāt possible fail, and heās still on the verge of doing so.
youāre literally arguing that the people who gave him the job, have made every excuse under the sun for him, are the reasons heās not successful, he woulndāt even be in the job if it werenāt for them.
Yeah I was being a touch rhetorical with that one!
The club needs a proper foot up the a$$. Clarko with his size 5 foot will be right person to deliver said foot
Edit - please donāt bash me clarko if you read this
We should just make sure we get a character reference from Ian Aitken before we formally offer Clarko a contract.
Truck will get sacked right after we get mega belted on Saturday. Theres nothing surer.
I suggest you delete that before you get banned. this is not a salacious gossip site.
Me neither. Feels a bit old for this group.
Actually Iām a bit torn - thereās no denying his ability as a coach and tactician, I just canāt stand the guy.
North is a VFL club pretending to be an AFL clubā¦ā¦they are p1$$ ants
Needs to stand in the corner facing the wall for a little while longer.
Anyone know where CLAKO is?
Hopefully theyāve smuggled him into the Hangar and heās doing push-ups on our spongy floor
I donāt believe Malthouse could have ever come to Essendon because he was our natural enemy (not that we ever wanted him). It would be too big a turnaround. We donāt tend to do much trade with our 2 biggest traditional rivals.
Clarkson is similar, but I think weāve overcome any aversion because of his resume, persona and the fact he doesnāt get along with Kennett.
To play devilās advocate, here are the coaching records for Clarko, Dimma and Rutten in their first 3 years as head coach (this assumes Rutten, not Woosha was coach in 2020)
You can guess who is who.
