Ben Rutten - sacked

@James98

We don’t want, and won’t tolerate, that sort of crap. First and last.

Cool, so we just have to offer more money than North

Playing it cool.

Clarkson can see a way out of ending up at Norf.

Now we make him sweat and wait for him to crack and offer his services for minimum wage.

North have put all their tins on the table. They can’t do anymore than that.

Do we need to get the charity tins out?

That’s the exact opposite of what we are doing :joy:

So when’s the KK (Kaniva Kid) being announced as the new coach?
Yes folks, the tough little fella comes from the same town as two of our great premiership players in Glenn Hawker and Roger Merrett  ……can’t be all bad!

I saw him in a cafe in Moonee Ponds a few minutes ago having coffee with a couple of people who had their backs to me.

He was trying to get something going on his laptop but seemed to be having difficulties.

It’s a valid point that some of those people are the same ones who were backing Rutten in.

I would argue that Rutten (or any other first time coach) would’ve had a much better chance of succeeding if the other key roles within the club - President, CEO, Footy Boss, Medical Dept & List Manager - were being run properly, which I don’t think they have been.

Either way, it’s seemingly done now. I’m rapt if we get Clarko - it’s important that we make additional changes though, so that he’s being supported by a footy department that is being properly run for once.

I doubt clarkson would be keen on coming to essendon if there weren’t assurances of an external review into every aspect of the place.

What about the winning percent record of all the other coaches over the last 20 years?
Easy to cherry pick those two coaches while ignoring everyone else.
What about Scott, Fagan, Beveridge, Goodwin, Longmire, Simpson etc?

Also, Clarkson in his 3rd year went 13W and 9L and WON a final. Dimma in his 3rd year won 10, then won 15 in his 4th year. There was clear progression each year.

We have gone backwards this year and you could argue we are in a worse spot now than what we were 3 years ago.

I’m critical of others who have been banging on about process for 2 years but now want Clarkson without one so I get your premise but think this view is a bit unfair on his Hawks tenure.

As a very young and inexperienced coach he cleared out older players and built the dynasty around Hodge, Franklin, Roughy, Cryril, Lewis, Brown, Sewell etc. The base of the side were high 18 yo draft picks. He topped up particularly well around that with Lake, Burgoyne, Dew etc.

Probably unfair to say he’s not proven with a young inexperienced list like ours.

Yup. In an ideal world Rutten would have been given the time to develop alongside the players, who are years away from a window (only if he has shown he can - hard to tell from the outside looking in).

Hardwick and Goodwin were given time to fark up then learn from their mistakes. Guess we’ll never know with Rutte whether he could have done the same, unless he gets another senior gig down the track

Couldn’t have GIF’d better myself.

Agreed. Brasher is central to this though, he didn’t have his finger on the pulse (or was more concerned about self-preservation/not exposing failing upwards), and Barham smelt blood and took advantage of it. Collingwood board woes played out in public, ours didn’t but the pieces are coming together now to show that their were serious cracks within Brashers board. He got what he deserved IMO.
