I thought we got a really good run from the umpires until the last quarter. They must hate North more than us, which in itself is quite an achievement.
On another note, it’s going to be interesting to listen to the verbal gymnastics they will no doubt adopt to explain the change of mind from awarding a North free kick to ball up when it should have been a clear, (no interpretation needed) Essendon free kick.

Flat out that last quarter was the worst umpiring I’ve seen since the 2019 Anzac Day debacle.

That free kick they gave North for their player kicking the ball away… the deliberate call, when it went through North player’s legs… the sling tackle paid to Zurhar when it was holding the ball… it was certainly Anzac day level.

Ump clearly says “kicking the ball away” and its called sometime after the incident which leads me to think has another ump from some distance away called it only to be corrected by ANOTHER ump. The AFL must clarify this properly.

That particular umpire has form. The fact that he wanted to pay a free kick to North in front of goals at a crucial time in the game based on something he didn’t even see just highlights everything that is wrong with umpires.

This! And even with this guess, why would an Essendon player be kicking it towards North’s goals during a contest? It doesn’t add up.

Yep, and even then it makes no sense to think an Essendon player would pick up the ball and snap it through the oppositions goals
It was just an umpire that wanted to take centre stage and make an impact on the game

It was clearly a free to EFC. If he thought someone was kicking the ball away after the whistle.

the hawks cheat as much as possible and expect to get away with about 50% of it.
did anyone see the 50 against breust where he just slow walked 10m back to the mark to give the guy the ball rather than throwing it. he 100% expected to get away with that ■■■■

is it not a rule that ruckman, if they go past the unofficial plain of the ball bouncing or being thrown up, that it should be a free ?
i thought that was introduced a few years ago, that you weren’t allowed to implede ruckman jumping for the contest.
it’s not just this game, buy grundy is going 3 odd meters past the ball up to block goldys run and he’s a crab who can’t jump
