I’m happy to admit we got the rub of the green today, but we’d need about a decade of similar umpiring to even up all rinsings we’ve received over the years
Brad Scott speaking out about the man standing on the mark rule ?
They can go past the ball but they have to touch the ball, if they miss it it’s a free
Another week of getting an almighty wristy from the umps. 7 50s plus some of those decisions in the last 10 mins. My goodness.
I mean they actively umpires against us in the 3rd so it’s not like they were deadset biased all game
Most of the 50s were there too tbh
The umpires were so keen to get Collingwood up in a close game that they “didn’t see” Shultz get knocked out cold in the middle of the pitch and start climbing ladders. It is in the “mistakes” the umpires make that you see their true motives
Hilarious seeing Sydney fan reactions on twitter. Sheer outrage. Now they know what it’s like to watch a game at the SCG.
Rampe had a couple of opportunities to be the hero and touch the ball when we kicked goals.
My son just about lost it when I commented that he could have tapped it through if he’d climbed the post
Huddo said the same thing in the call lol
Can someone explain to me what the rule is relating to coming from behind the mark to man the mark?
When can you and when can’t you? I have no idea.
Every now and then they call a 50m penalty and then ignore it for the next 100 or so contests.
I think if you come from outside the “5m protected zone” to man the mark it’s 50 but most umpires tend to give a fair bit of grace.
If that’s the rule, then they are absoluteyl guessing, or choosing to ignore…until they don’t.
And it’s just so dumb. A player is expected to do a quick estimate of where the protected area starts and finishes, and then hope the ump comes up with the same estimate. And if he gets it wrong, potentially it costs his team a goal. Just forget it. Let a player come from anywhere to man the mark, as long as he goes straight to the mark and doesn’t try to impede in doing so.
50m penalties are rubbish, and ruin the game. The should be a rarity, and only for severe events, not trivia.
You forget the main thing: the AwFL makes these grey areas so the maggots can deliver what Gil called “the results we need”.
I thnk you can do it only before the Stand call.
Yeh it’s pretty grey.
My understanding is so long as they haven’t told you to clear out of the protected space, you can in there until you call stand.
But you need to make sure you aren’t impeding the player with the ball to get there. So if you are coming from behind the mark, no putting your hands up, and come out in a wider arc so you aren’t getting in the way of player coming laterally.
