“Gee…you’d think that guy would give us a bit of privacy from time to time” ![]()
Some of BH’s pics from our recent trip east, wedged into a narrow gap in grandchild duties.
#Pilot Bird - Tarra Bulga. So named because it allegedly precedes the Lyre bird. A long sought after Lifer, so BH was rapt
#Black faced Monarch - Nangara. Also a Lifer, 2 in 1 trip!
#Olive Whistler - Tarra Bulga
#Satin Bower Bird - Tarra Bulga
#Great Egret - Nooramunga Alberton
#Olive-backed Oriole - Alberton. Absolutely love this pic.
#Whimbrel - Toora
A simple hit on the like button isn’t enough really. !!
Some of BH’s recent pics
#Australian Boobooks - Main Ridge. My main question here is do these 3 Boobooks merit the collective noun, A Parliament of Owls. A lifer.
#Black-Tailed Nativehen - WTP. AKA Turbo Chook.
#Whistling Kite- WTP
#Little Penguin - The Nobbies. This toddler was sitting under the walkway waiting for its folks to return
#Australian Tern - Stockyard Point, Jam Jerrup.
#Terrick Sand Piper -Stockyard Point, Jam Jerrup.
BH in her element at Stockyard point, possibly her fav birding experience is waiting for high tide to bring in the birds there, in this case a 2 hour event and blessedly not another soul around.
Last night at dusk by the railway line, pretty sure that’s a tawny frogmouth, but open to being corrected as it was pretty dark.
Has anyone watched Keegan Mason on YouTube or Facebook?
He is an indigenous bloke who has remarkable videos on Australian birds and other wildlife. I wonder if they are AI generated as getting so many wild birds to sit on his arm is insane,
Hope this link works !
Portland shutterbug Darin Roos took this perfectly timed shot. Top photo, that!

Yeah, unfortunately I think that account has been proven to be very convincing AI.
I noticed it a while back, and was impressed by first few posts…. But the variety of species and how well they posed/behaved had me second guessing.
Not the worst use of AI but it is a bit unsettling
I really like Kookaburras.
Their size, their plumage, their demeanour…
I remember when my twin girls were little and starting to talk and becoming aware of the world around them. Both started coming into our room in the morning terrified of the maniacal cackling echoing through out out back yard and neighbourhood every morning courtesy of the kookaburras in the area. Both utterly horrified and confused as to what the noise was.
I had to explain to them it was big fat cuddly birds that wake up every morning and tell each other jokes. Its their laughter they could hear.
They believed me… But still didn’t fully trust them.
This Kookaburra watched me walk up the garden, get within 4 feet without a problem. Walking back down the garden he flew up into our Ash tree, waited for about five minutes then flew off. Very relaxed bird!
Yeah, it’s actually a White-faced Storm-petrel. There is a small breeding colony on Mud Island in Port Phillip Bay.
Where was this one found?
Lorne Beach Last week
Is this the beginning of the petrel shortage that we were warned might happen?
