Break the swear filter - Review thread v Woofers

We are a loser club. Have been for a long time.

We can only play our best when we’re not expected to. Loser’s mindset.

I am not writing them off just yet, but FMD, I want a performance that at least looks like they are putting in, today was woeful.

I am not going to blame the coach, the players know what their job is, well flaming do it. If I have a shit) day at my job am not going to blame the boss.

I am going next week, don’t expect a win but expect them to play with desire and be competitive at least.

Agreed. Haven’t most of these players been playing the game a long time? How ■■■■■■■ complicated is it.

When the VFL team seem to have more mongrel and better attack on the footy

I suppose it had best be me. Or someone else who has access to a dictionary. You do know what “pessimistic” means, don’t you?

Whats so difficult to understand about kicking a bag of wind around?

I wonder what the average IQ of our players is.

Nope, far from ‘cool’ with him laughing after that… but I reckon he still has more upside that I don’t want him to drop his head or be dropped to the VFL to possibly never recover.

He farked up… he knows it and he will have to live through that moment all week as the media will run with it. In true ‘media’ style they will use that fark up to explain why we ‘lost’ without acknowledging that we were well farked before he had the brain fade.

And yeah I probably cut him some slack because the ONLY times we looked potent today were when he was leading well and clunking marks. Our forwardline and attacking options look far far far far more dangerous with Daniher leading rather than Cale ‘not a forward’ Hooker.

So I am very much ‘not cool’ with the laughing, the show boating, the playing for free kicks and the lack of confidence Joe is playing with this year. However rather than dump all over him, I reckon we need to look at WHY he isn’t in the game and how we, as a club, can fix that. Right now we have a machine gun loaded but continue to want to just fight with the rifle…

Good call. Imagine if that happened to a player in the great recent Cats, Hawks or great bomber teams of old. It’s unacceptable.

It’s crazy to think that considering what type of player Woosha was that this happens and we lack so much mongrel

Preach it brother!

perhaps he’s made it too complicated.

Good grief that was woeful. How can a team that sounds fairly good on paper deliver up that lacklustre, uncommitted brand of football.

Pressure from the opposition is the main reason and, from what has been mentioned to me more than once, lacking confidence to buck the game plan that is given to them and use their initiative when a situation arises. The game seems to be too fast for a lot of our players to cope with.

Do we have too many coaches? Are they all on the same page or are they just interested in keeping their own jobs. I am just so disappointed that we seem to be going backwards, round after round, year after year and no one seems to have any idea on how to fix it.

I’m dreading next week against Port

As much as I want to fire our dud coach out of a cannon. Nothing can deflect from how pathetic the players who took the field were today. Just pea heart efforts across the board

Bellchambers getting smashed by a 2nd year player. Didn’t give a yelp

Joe- the hype has gone to his head. Isn’t working anywhere near hard enough. Just stands on the wing asking for the ball to be kicked on his head. That handball was easily the dumbest thing I have seen…since Myers was offered a 3 year deal

Myers- was complete and utter ■■■■ today.plain and simple. Coughed the ball up, got out marked. Leader my ■■■■. Into the cannon he should go. If anyone at the club suggests he should stay in the team- they should be punched right in the face and kicked out the door.

Brown- is a vfl quality player. I defy anyone to say you would rather have him in the backline than Hartley and say it with a straight face.

Hooker- IS.A.DEFENDER!

Our whole midfield- fk me. Any chance you could you know…hit a target, actually run to give the backline an option to kick too, apply pressure, stick a tackle. Weak as ■■■■

The effort isn’t there, that is an indictment on the players and the leaders. Effort is a non negotiable, if you can’t provide at least that. Then you should have the decency to not accept your match payments.

I’m 76 years old and had a total knee replacement back in January. I reckon I could still run faster than half the team out there today. To say the least, it was disgraceful exhibition by the Essendon team today. Not one player actually beat their opponent, if they could find him. The Dogs ran everywhere on their own and made Essendon look foolish. For the last two weeks I’ve picked Essendon to win. The next game I pick them might be the Carlton game, but if it wet they’ll beat us like last year. The coaching staff are being out coached and Daniher has a head as big as a pumpkin. He is the AFL clown at the moment. Is there anyone on the AFL list in the VFL? Surely heads will roll. Zerrett isn’t right, The whole side looks very shonky, full of big heads after one good quarter of football for the year. Another wasted year.

Another pre season of hype met with regular season fizzle. Myers is cooked. Smith, McGrath, Parish, McKenna, Hurley were the only ones with any heart. All I can say is I hope we improve significantly as the season progresses.

When we didn’t sack Dodoro 15 years ago, when we renewed Knights’ contract without any justification, when we meekly gave up the clubs players & coaches innocence to the AFL in return for protecting the board & when we the supporters didn’t sack every single board member responsible. When we sabotaged our coach by not even allowing him to attend the B&F but tried to tell the fans all was OK. When we knifed our coach & appointed a washed up hack who was never actually a good coach rather than get a younger hungrier coach with a vision. Mediocrity is not even what we are - we are below mediocre. We are the worst performed club of the last 13 years. Why can’t people understand this? We haven’t won a final for longer than any club & we don’t look remotely close to it now.

I posted this on another forum… but they aren’t prone to accepting too much negativity as it doesn’t fit their agenda so expecting it to be deleted shortly… but I still think it is relevant to this thread

Below is a list of the games (37) where our club has started “favourites” (or equal favourites) against sides of similar ladder position or worse and have lost. There are also many other examples (15+) where we have started favourites (or equal favourites) and have won by unexpectedly (for some) small margins. Some people label this typical “Essington” syndrome, but whatever you call it… it’s a serious psychological problem that has gripped the club for over a decade now.

Now of course we have had some very memorable (and unexpected) victories during this period as well against some highly rated opponents (like every other club) but they are well and truly outnumbered by the lacklustre losses… again something that every other club also experiences but not to the scale of Essendon.

Many are criticised (and fair enough) for their lack of positivity prior to fixtures such as today (18th placed Western Bulldogs) but the statistics make for very poor reading as a lover of this club, as many of you are. Many will also point to us fielding many mid to lower table teams during this period (and also the drugs saga)… but the problem has also been prevalent during some of our ‘better’ years.

So… is it…

  • The club cannot handle the pressure of being favourites?
  • Underrating our opponents?
  • Getting too ahead of ourselves after a good win or decent run of form?
  • Overrated list?
  • Mediocre midfield throughout this period?
  • Poor coaching?
  • Poor preparation?
  • Egos?
  • Other?
  • All of the above?

Apart from obvious and natural improvement, how can we as a club improve in this area?

Please see the following list of examples…
