Break the swear filter - Review thread v Woofers

What can i say that hasn’t already been said?

Embarassingly soft performance.
On every line, players were pointing for someone other then themselves to man up as they ‘guarded space’.

In the meantime the Dogs, with those annoying 20m kicks, just ran into that space to take unpressured marks. And were generally able to dispose of thr ball without pressure!!! FARK ME.

How many times did they simply bring the ball with ease from their backline into their forwardline?
It was laughable and pathetic and farking soft as butter.

We are a soft team, when we dont get to ‘play the way we want to play’ it all falls to pieces.

Well boo farking who Essendon, the opposition is onto your run and gun gamestyle.

-Press up hard and congest when we kick out from goal.

-Apply heaps of pressure so our skills dont stand up and allow for any flow and usually produce a turnover.
-put 1-2 behind the ball.

AND GUESS WHAT? GAME OVER.

This was a disgraceful performance, and if Woosha and the other coaches cant wake them up on match day, then we are in for a world of hurt this year.

I know I was in the forward camp but within 5 minutes of being down there he was not only looking like a natural backman but also a leader in defence, telling others where to position and such.
With the defence how it is now who would be our general down there ala Luke Hodge. BJ maybe, I think hurls seems more introverted and suits the look after his own game type. Cale wants to be the man weather it’s back or forward but I think we need some leadership down back from a true back man.
It may even help Hart’s Game a bit too I think.

sorry smj.

but its still not ■■■■■■■ good enough. they’ve surely been told in private they’re not giving a ■■■■■■■ ■■■■. i’ve seen more interest from teenage first job casuals in retail then half the ■■■■■■■ team week in week out.

whats more, the 2000 team is the most underachieving premier i’ve ever seen. should have been a 3 peat instead we get 1 good season to build 2 decades of unwarranted arrogance upon.

The reasons for this loss are the reasons for most of our losses post around 2003/04 onwards.

Firstly, we are farking shithouse and secondly the oppositions midfield is almost always vastly superior to ours in every way.

Tactics, workrate, disposal, concentration and awareness, overhead marking, toughness, contested ball winning ability, run and spread, you name it, the opposition midfield is generally always superior to ours.

Im sure that it will all magically turn around this year for sure though…

If that is the case X should have said to the players in private afterwards “I will not say another word in public about your performance provided you never put in such an insipid display again.”

Those who know me on here know that I am the I am usually the last person to blame the coaches. I think they cop the blame all to often. This is a long post but bear with me.

I understand that poor performances against sides we are supposed to beat have been happening well before this coaching panel. I don’t know what the cause of that is, but I don’t fully blame the coaching staff for that.

Against poorer sides our workrate always seems terrible. There is no accountability, no pressure, and no desperation. Again I don’t fully blame the coaching staff for that. The players and especially the leadership group are mainly to blame for that. If as an AFL player knows job is only football cannot be mentally pre-pared for the game they shouldn’t be there. Its most certainly a mental issue, I suspect some sort of subconscious air of arrogance.

I understood last year that the coaching staff where dealing with having to mix the old players with the new. I gave them slack when they would stick to the game plan and trust in it for long term success. Even though from the outside looking in, obvious changes seen by all could have saved games. I believed that changing things up may have lead to more confusion due to lack of time playing together. That the players may loose faith in the “way the coach wanted them to play”

Sure the players put in a poor performance today. But we are becoming increasingly easy to play against, teams figure you when you only have one way to win.

Why did we persist with trying to guard space when the doggies had the ball. They just kicked around us like witches hats for one and a half quarters. Half way through the 2nd we started finally maning up with instant success. But then in the 3rd we came out trying to guard space again. I could be totally wrong but it felt to me like the players where told to go back to guarding space.

Why don’t we put Joe in the ruck at times, last year he was quiet in games, then once on the ball he got a few touches, gained some confidence, and looked unstoppable. Or is he simply playing injured.

Why not swing Hooker back earlier, if they did it probably would have won us the game.

I can certainly see why people are saying John is a poor gameday coach. He seems to persist with things to long believing they will come good. But its not only during one game, its from week to week as well.

I am not an AFL coach but I am a strong believer in the basics. We persist with a kamikaze risk all style of game, all the time. Trying to take the impossible kick, and handballing to stationary targets. Guarding space when we should be manning up.

We need to become far less predictable, and fast. If we don’t its going to be a long season.

Spot on.

Thought hodges special comments was good in game.

Ie dont pin point passes down the middle from a kick out early in the game as zones will be strong then as players not tired.

Quality rant. Don’t entirely agree with all of it but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Mediocrity, that is Essendon at the moment. Two weeks in a row the Essendon team has failed to show up.
Our midfield just can’t win a clearance. Worse than that the team just conceded ground and failed to defend. Additionally you cannot expect to shape as a finals challenger with such poor disposal and such a poor want to compete.
Unless there is a drastic turn around about the way the team plays and the team culture the Essendon Football Club is doomed to yet further mediocrity.
The first post in this thread pointed out how long it has been since the Essendon Football Club was a force to reckon with.
Today was abysmal and the club needs to strongly confirm that such a performance is unacceptable.
We have put up with this ■■■■ for more than a decade.

Thanks mate.

Gotta get it all out while the rage is still fresh and then reset for Port next week.

We are lucky not to be 0-3.

Im fearful that now after 15 years its to late to fix this.

This putrid culture of mediocrity is now to ingrained into this club

Last I saw a performance bad as this was against Melbourne after a short turn-around from the Anzac day game. No doubt they didn’t recover well from the trip to Perth.

There is no excuse though. We are really horrible at hunting the ball by going in lower and harder when it hits the ground in a 50/50 contest from ruck situations.

We only win those clearances where it just drops to our players or Belly hits it to them. Then when we do get a clearance you can guarantee the opposition defenders will mark it if it is a kick. If it is a handball, our players get savaged.

I’m far too drunk to offer anything other than unfiltered rage atm.

So, I guess I’ll just say…

Boy, that was farkin sh*t.

You were there about 10 years before me Bessie, I have loved them for more than 60 years and I agree with you. Today just about did it for me too. Our old club has been taken over by corporate types and marketing boys, and the players are individual well-coiffed handsome lads who like to get a game and a good salary but ■■■■■■ hell don’t seem to care if we win or lose. Coleman, Reynolds and Clarke must be spinning.

He is not the only one to blame. The players themselves should be ashamed for today’s performance and I am sure they are. Essendon have been full of excuses for 15 years. The only difference is that now we have the players that are supposed to be finals material and for a while now there has been a lot of complaining re game plan and no plan B. We as supporters are not seeing Woofa working his darnest to do something…anything…to stem the onslaught when it comes. We need a coach that let’s the players know that when they put in a bad performance they could sent to the VFL and it seems he only has a select few that feel this, arguably the wrong players. Last week he negatively named one of our only real triers (McKenna) that he was too fast. I could go on and on. I don’t hear this tripe from other coaches…other trip yes, but not this. Quite frankly if this keeps up for the next 3 years we would have done our dash with our current team and will be time to rebuild again. Besides when a team that should be as good as this team should be, a change of coach is sometimes the remedy as long as we get one with real coglioni…(balls for non italians).

Thank god we fluked the win against the crows, otherwise we would be 3-0.

An observation…
we have been mediocre since we took on Docklands/Etihad.

perhaps its just timing but we are now training to play at MCG and we look horrific at Etihad. for so long we were good at Etihad and bad at the G. I wonder if that one decision to leave the G has ■■■■■■ us for 18 years
