Brisbane 2032

Yep this definitely has rugbeeleagues slimey mitts all over it. There is a poll running on Brisbane channel 9 at the moment, it is close. Hopefully the public narrative calls for a Victoria park stadium, it’d be great for footy in QLD (that’s why the nrl are blocking it via their mate Coates the scumbags).

I find it funny how when palashay wanted to knock down the gabba the right wing dominated media hammered her over the cost, now they have decided not to build any new stadium, the media is smashing milea calling it chaotic, a shambles and short sighted.
the bias is very obvious and funny

also love now how the ex Olympians are weighing in and whinging about polics and leaving if a legacy , who for? , the athletes ? they are already pampered enough. I’ll be happy if they leave a better public transport system as the legacy or improved road network .
pretty sure the same people also whinged about the money they were going to spend on rebuilding the gabba.

Look at Sydney, 20 years post the Olympics and they planned to demolish and rebuild. If it weren’t for COVID, it would’ve happened. We’ve learnt nothing.

One thing I have learnt in all this is the term “concrete cancer” and after 30 years sports stadiums start to go to ■■■■

1988 - Sydney Football Stadium - rebuild 2022 after “concrete cancer” diagnosis
1992 - MCG Southern Stand (looking at a rebuild after the 2027 Rugby World Cup)
Mid 90’s - Gabba - starting to fall apart
2000 - Docklands - Getting a major reno done now

Meanwhile stuff built before Jebus even born still stands …

Is that have investigated as in they looked at cancelling and decided better to proceed, or are have investigated as in they are in the process of making a decision?

If the latter, I suspect there is a real big chance they ditch them.

Looked at it … IOC said $500 millon it will cost you to rip up the contract … government going ahead (at the moment) as planned but as we know plans change

Gee, given some of the costings, $500 million seems a real easy way out here.

If I was the LNP State Leader I’d be tempted to make the election into a referendum. Vote for us “no olympics”, vote for them “you get the olympics”

It’s a free hit.

They don’t cancel, do that. They do, it becomes an argument in wasted resources during a cost of living crisis.

EDIT: Actually, no, after some thought, it would be a terrible idea for the LNP in QLD to do that. I reckon I could come up with a decent advertising campaign in an afternoon which makes people feel like cancelling the Olympics is a lost opportunity, imagine what proper advertisers could do. They should commit to no position and let the ALP dig their own grave.

Although, the QLD ALP are 100% cooked anyway, so it really doesn’t matter in terms of the next election.

Stay in your lane Brisbane.

Dont try and compete with the big c-ck cities of Melbourne and Sydney.

suncorp is only about 80 mtrs wide . how they all going to fit everibe the ground for the opening ceremony? maybe theyll do it on caxton st so all the pissheads in Broncos shirts with thongs and xxxx stubbies can booo

I hope they do cancel it and Melbourne pick it up, we’d do a great job and already good existing venues. Coates wouldn’t allow it though being a Sydney centric nrl wanker.

Only if the international delegates are made to self-fund their entire junket should Melbourne even consider it.
And even then, still very much prefer not.

The LNP don’t need to run a campaign on the Olympics. The government is toast because it’s been inept and abysmal on the stuff that really matters to Queenslanders: Cost of living, Aggravated burglary, housing affordability, health etc… The LNP will have to do plenty wrong to lose. Better could. This has been a terrible government and the Olympics fiasco is the likely final nail in its political coffin. Chaos reigns in QLD…

so no then

The NSW Treasurer half-jokingly has said they would look at hosting the games if Brisbane drop out

The tide is turning, reckon Brisbane 2032 is dead in the water now. Just a matter of time until the life support plug is pulled

Gabba’s still falling down, Suncorp too will need an upgrade in the next decade

Brisbane and Denver will become a nice trivia question in years to come
