Celebrity Deaths 2020

That’s right. Amazing that she survived but even more amazing was the comparatively light sentence her former husband received for trying to kill her and succeeding in disfiguring her.

David Darcy, former VFL player and father of Luke has passed away.

Say that again

Wilford Brimley, perpetual player of the “curmudgeon” passed away at 85. For a while there he was the go to guy for “homespun”- see Cocoon and The Natural.

Sad news as he was well liked over here aswell and it’s been a couple of rough weeks for South Adelaide fans.
Little known fact was that he was transferred to Adelaide for work and Footscray refused to clear him to a SANFL club initially and it took until Round 8 before he made his debut and he ended up finishing 3rd in the Magarey Medal despite playing only 11 games. He was transferred back to Melbourne at the end of the season for work and went back to play for Footscray. He played another 3 or 4 years in the VFL before once again moving to Adelaide and becoming player/captain/coach at South Adelaide where his football career finished. His dopey son Luke played for South Adelaide before being drafted to the Dogs

Wilford Brimley cannot be eulogised without this

Wayne Fontana from The Mindbenders has checked out aged 74.

l thought about posting this song a few days ago in the Songs You Haven’t heard In Years thread. More fitting right here, right now. He had a great voice, not many can hit those high notes, and this one has a sweet melody as well.

And then there is also this…

I liked his songs. He had a lot of trouble in his life after stardom faded. RIP.

Clive Ponting, the Briitish civil servant whistleblower who exposed the truth behind the sinking of the General Belgrano during the Falklands War.
He was acquitted at his trial as the judge accepted that the ‘interests of State’ exception in the Official Secrets Act did not mean the interests of the government of the day.
Wonder if there is a comparable clause in our Official Secrets Act… ‘National Interest ‘ gets bandied about a lot, including by governments, but hard to get a precise definition.

How the hell did Fleetwood Mac get in there?

It was in their early blues with Peter Green, not the later version.
