Vale ONJ, a stunning women who I fell in love with in Grease. Sandy you will always have a place in my heart.
You’re not alone there.
RIP Olivia
Still yet to watch Grease but a very sad day and a true icon. She will be sadly missed
A class tribute from John Travolta. …
She was a fighter, gave everything to big causes and an artist of many talents that’s for sure.
She will be hugely missed.
I hated this Ian Turpie bloke, Olivia was a sweetheart at 16.
I knew with the number of new posts that it must have been someone big…
This is so sad
Omnipresent in my childhood, from Grease to Physical, to Dad’s story of having lunch with her (which actually meant she came into the restaurant he was eating in).
RIP
Do yourself a favour. I’ll have the soundtrack on repeat all day.
The ONJ cancer centre is amazing too; an incredible legacy to leave behind.
RIP.
Absolutely gutted, this one is close to home for me. Sure I was a fan of her’s in kindergarten but the work she’s done for cancer let alone decades of that tap on the shoulder you get, is a tough thing to go through and something that’s really hard to shake even after Doctors might indicate you’re in the clear. Hearing her speak of the mental recovery process means a lot to me. Bless her. RIP Olivia Newton-John.
She has a career most would give their left nut for.
- multiple worldwide top 10 hits over 30 years
- actress in some of the more iconic films, ( for better or worse). I’m looking at you Grease and Xanadu
- and a voice that is rarely covered for good reason. It’s just a bit too good.
I’m sad and a little gutted right now.
Very sad news. A beautiful woman who was always a ray of sunshine.
I agree with the above sentiment. Although she only repeats the one word, it is ethereal and haunting, unforgettable. Getting to sing the backing vocals was a stroke of genius as it elevates the entire song.
So sad that she has succumbed to the cancer she has fought for so long. RIP Olivia.
R.I.P Olivia.
You brought a lot a joy to people through your career and your seemingly non stop work for cancer.
You will be forever young, your movie Grease has stood the test of time.
Not a fan of the music which is probably why I haven’t watched the movie
You’ll love the songs after watching it.
“Grease” was never a great appeal to me - I think Mum , my sister and her friends played it far far too often and ruined it perhaps - but I do recall being struck by her beauty and voice in the Xanadu video clip. More so than in “Physical”, actually. I was very young, too, probably my first crush.
I’m watching her highlights on the Today show. She was truly bedazzling. Such a nice person and everyone is genuinely devastated that she’s gone.
There’s a sense of tragedy about it due to the decades-long fight against cancer. Her success in fighting it so long will eventually come to the fore, but in the meantime it’s predominantly sadness.
