Problem is, this dud will end his career with 7 or so All Australian gongs that he doesn’t deserve.
He made an error in judgement by going to the contest without being able to impact it. But to call him a dud is full delusional pearler stuff… No offence mate but if you can’t see what a ridiculously good job he does holding their entire defence most of the time then I can’t help you. He is a star. He is excellent one on one, very good at setting up play offensively, and covers for his teammates ■■■■ ups or deficiencies more than just about anyone in the comp. Purely because he has to. The best of all time stuff is ridiculous click bait fluff, but he’s an effing superstar who’s rarely been beaten in the last 4 years.
I’m more than happy for folk to keep telling him he’s the best ever because it can only lead to a let down eventually… a bit like folk around here frothing on that we’re all of a sudden world beaters who will trounce Richmond on Saturday night is sure to end one way…

Yup, Rance is an absolute star.
Rance is one of the best defenders Richmond has had in the last couple of decades.
That’s it.
FFS, we’re talking about a bloke that had an opposition coach put out the order, ‘don’t let him handball, make him kick.’
And it ■■■■■■■ worked like gangbusters.
He’s alright.
He’s not within a bulls friggin’ roar of the very best.

I agree that Rance certainly isn’t a dud and is a top defender.
But at no time since Hurls has gone back have I ever though Rance is the better defender or number 1 in the comp. I think Hurley and Hooker are better.
Cale when he was down back dominated and completely shut down his opponents and took many grabs to then repel the attack.
But on the Hurley v Rance, here are the defining stats:
Hurley v Rance (per game)
Disposals: 23.1 v 15.7
Marks: 7.6 v 5.2
1%: 4.7 v 11.9
Most other stats are fairly similar but Rance’s spoiling is the obvious key. His 11.9 1%-ers per game is leading the comp in this stat. (The next best average and only other player over 10pg is actually Michael Hartley on 10.6).
Hurls ability to stop the opposition and setup play turning defense into attack trumps Rance. Hurls has it all and can be a damaging forward as well. He has more strings to his bow IMHO.
Edit. The other stat I forgot was rebound fifties. Hurls leads the comp in this stat with 6.9 per game compared to Rance with 4.1.

I seriously hope not. Catching up with my brother and his family who are tigers supporters. It could get ugly.
Of current day key defenders, leaving aside Hurley, Hooker and even a fit and motivated Carlisle, I rate Talia better, and Johnson too.
And it’s not like I religiously follow other teams.
That’s a fair few contemporaneous equal or better KPB’s to have when you’re talking about GOAT.
And as I said before, I wouldn’t swap Wellman out of our 2000 side for him.
Not on Wellman’s worst day and Rance’s best.
Let alone Fletcher.

Sorry but I can’t agree with you. In 2015, Hurley’s AA year, Rance had the best one on one percentage in the comp. that is to say he lost fewer one on ones than any other defender in the comp. Hurley was second and McGovern was third from memory. Hurley had Rance in a few other statistical areas such as possessions and I50’s but Rance was the better one on one player.
I agree that Hooker was better than both in the first half of 2015 when he was playing back.
