COVID-19 Round 12 - c'mon, it's just a little prick

James on now, on delay. Brett to speak on outbreaks here and in NSW, we all want to take the kids on hols ( particularly if you are powerless in the Dandenongs I imagine)

My big fear is this obsession with zero cases and lockdown/border closure bingo will continue on once we’ve reached a good chunk of immunisation and we’re just at the mercy of fed and state govs playing political football with it well into next year and beyond as the rest of the world carries on. It’s an insane way to live.

nah, it’ll be mass civil disobedience if that happens.

We need to reach 80% vaccinations before herd immunity, so that dilemma is a fair way away at the current rate.

*60%

Chop is right, people will start losing their ■■■■ before that. Other countries are nowhere near that mark and are getting on and about their business.

60% was the magic number until delta started to become dominant worldwide. Latest discussion from health experts has been using 80% as the target.

Settings in place for a fortnight in Vic

That will take years at this rate. I’m not sure it’s tolerable for the majority.

cop that weatherman

Mr Snooze on now.

Might have been cab or Uber drivers

And having big numbers of deaths
The weak Australian population are too scared to take a perfectly safe vaccine because 2 people per million may die and yet we are supposed to believe folk will be happy to open up and cop potentially hundreds of deaths.
I actually feel the majority of people are happy to stay shut off to the world which is a huge concern of mine

I’m an odd blend of optimist and pessimist.

Our rollout is terrible. We have effectively no supply. Every government action discourages vaccinations instead of promoting them. We have no clear and present danger to give people a reality check and nudge them into getting the vaccine. We have a massive amount of misinformation being spread.

On the plus side, the army dude in charge of the rollout has stated every citizen will have access to at least their first dose by Xmas. That’s forecasting a massive step change in vaccine supply. We will just need the infrastructure and marketing to match.

It’s also just so galling to see sportsmen, actors, pollies & c-grade celebrities of any note continue to travel in and out of the country whilst we’re captives to varying degrees of kilometres, regions, states. I’m so over it all.

Brett says nearing the final clearance stage in Whittlesea etc.
We are not out of the woods . Goes through the red zone permit system for the 7 Sydney LGAs, one extra orange zone. don’t take decisions lightly, protecting Vics my primary focus, talking to NSW and Qld counterparts all the time…
More or less a hard border for the 7 LGA red zonesrs ( except for returning Vic residents).
Available booking slots, we have enough vax to meet.

We should be using testing to allow interstate travel.
A test before you leave, another one shortly after, then another one further in.

Don’t worry about vaccinated vs non-vaccinated at the moment. We’re too far away from that discussion.
It’s been a huge failure of National Cabinet to come up with a way to allow interstate travel in a responsible manner.

As someone who is vaccinated and has seen maybe one case pass through their LGA here in Sydney I can tell you my ■■■■ is being tested.

(And no not in the literal sense)

It probably is in the literal sense, just further downstream in the sewage system.
