COVID-19 Round 12 - c'mon, it's just a little prick

HTFU!

(graph is USA data)

Sydney airport is really quiet.

Plane to Adelaide wouldn’t be 25% full.

It’s a very strange feel at the moment…

Sutton is also saying people are fatigued.

SA testing requirements for Vics after arrival are stringent , Vic may have testing requirement for orange zone, returning Vic residents.
Journos probing whether CHO etc disquiet with ATAGI and the fallout for vax supplies from its AZ advice - not at all he says, ATAGI technical experts, perform a distinct role.
Brett not going to be drawn on criticisms of NSW - he suggests Vic had more of a challenge with its index case - one size does not fit all, specific details and geographic differences,
Why didn’t you give more notice on NSW red zones - he says things moving quickly, gets info overnight.

Journos not happy with dance floors, fewer at weddings than at pubs.
Are you doing more sentinel testing - Brett says pretty low value, but always under review

Test on arrival and isolate until test result.
Not ideal but still better than the 1,5,13 setup

What am I missing about this? (When it was a requirement at least) Aren’t regular folk still only “technically” allowed to get a test if they have Symptoms?
So only sick, but not Covid sick, people are supposed to be allowed to go?

I think the fact they’re not putting a system for interstate travel in place is actually deliberate.

They are building up to a point, once the vaccine is widely available (so October-ish) where they will announce that there will be no more border closures ever - but you can only travel interstate if you’re vaccinated.

They know that’s their best lever to pull to get reluctant people do to it (ScoMo has hinted at it already) and I think they’ll do it to get as many people vaccinated as possible before the Christmas holidays.

There were different rules for those on the skifields and down the mountain in the Alpine region

‘Shut off from the world’ is a huge overstatement. We still trade. We still go on essential travel - maybe ‘essential’ can be expanded(?) We have tourism bubbles where safe. We plan to target sectors that can be opened internationally if safe (eg international students). We can’t do international travel for fun when and wherever we’d like but that is minor.

We have limited the impact of covid as well or better than most other nations, yet so many of you whinge that we’ll only have 15k at the footy rather than 50k and that won’t give me enough atmosphere thru my television. Your (not you Aceman but the entire set us free crowd) priorities are farkin wrong.

Coming out of covid is so farkin delicate and given the world is struggling still in the grip of the pandemic including some nations relatively highly vaccinated, slow and careful and safe is the only smart way to go.

Yeh I agree we haven’t invested enough in quarantine for returning travellers.

According to its official site SA has been applying the multiple testing rules for those permitted entry from different regions.

Wouldn’t opening the borders make it more affordable for people stuck to come home as there will be more flights running.

I agree. I’m sick of her Cavalier Tory attitude. It’s putting us all at risk.

You could get tests anytime. For example, not sick but at a possible exposure site. There’s a number of testing sites that are only open to those that aren’t sick (asymptomatic).

Thank you for expressing an intelligent and nuanced view, rather than the “no more farkin restrictions you moron farkface idiots” rhetoric which seems to have taken over this thread lately.

These decisions aren’t easy, and they’re not clear cut either way. But the reality is that until we have a high level of vaccinated people we are still all at significant risk. The risk hasn’t gone down just because we are in month 18 of this thing and everyone is exhausted. In fact it’s actually increased and the public health response needs to reflect that reality.

That’s only for SA residents returning home or a couple of other exemptions such as escaping domestic violence or moving to SA. All others were banned from coming from Greater Melbourne. Regional Victoria has been test on day 1 for all except the 70km border bubble.
From Friday Greater Melbourne goes to the Day 1 test only

Thanks, didn’t know that. Figured you just had to… embellish symptoms anytime you thought a test might be warranted.

“shut off” is not a hyperbolic term
