COVID-19 Round 13 - IT'S NOT A RACE!

My job is to speak to the facts says Glad, in response to Qs about NSW Cab Ministers dissenting…
She is putting ALL the blame on low vax rates, anything else alternative facts ( paraphrasing not quoting)
Qs about hospital and ICU capacity - why can’t you tell us how many in hospital etc ( connected to those vaxed?)
Tells journos to hold their horses - going to get through all Qs today

  • but will Brad last the distance, checking watch.

I’d like them to report Covid positive households as well as cases.

Some very big households in Sydney where it’s popping off. SW Sydney is full of multi generational families under the one roof.

38 cases sounds a lot better if it’s 5 households for example.

Lot easier to try and control too.

So 45 in hospital from 440 active cases. That’s really concerning, I thought the rule of thumb was 10% require hospitalisation. They are getting this rate even with huge vaccinations of vulnerable cohort. Either Delta is more dangerous or there are way, way more cases than they are finding.

Demographics, selfish individuals roaming the town with symptoms for 10 days or more undetected, and a little bit of luck seems to be the main drivers for how bad outbreaks have been.

The better or worse contact tracing is rhetoric and a distraction. Primarily I think it has been a topic because Vic had a major lack of them when COVID first hit.

Casuals working in those places, including cleaning etc - the ones who might get $500 from the Feds if they are lucky.
Kerry going to clarify if two people allowed to attend open for inspection

  • so many loopholes, Kerry not on top of detail, because Brad sets the rules?
Need to have testing at 40k a day.

It’s be “INJIN VIRUS”

I don’t think anyone knowingly transmits covid.

As for roaming. As far as I understand it most transmission in the community is through essential workers.

And even then if you have to put bread on the table….despite having a bit of a sniffle?

Covids hitting the poorest part of Sydney right now. Government needs to do a lot more in terms of assistance.

More cops issuing fines for breaches of stay at home notices isn’t really enough.

Less a matter of contact tracing and over centralisation, than not locking down fast enough?
There were figures quoted that when cases/contacts reach X numbers, not even gold standard contact tracers could keep up.

Not to harp on it but Ch7 reporting in a triumphant fashion with the House in the background that Australian Government have secured a ‘brand new deal’ with Pfizer to increase supply to a million a week. No detail, no reference to Pfizer statement, cut to Scomo “we’re hitting our marks’.

How many state propaganda outlet Scomo?

Just nuke NSW and be done with it

NSW positive cases under investigation trending the wrong way.

NSW positive cases

I certainly hope no one does. What people do however, is not bother to get checked when they have “a sniffle” and don’t think it’s an issue to expose half the suburbs to their “cold”.

I think it’s equally selfish to expose others to your cold if it could have been avoided. Many of those people who get your cold can’t work for days, and need to get themselves tested.

It is a worry how many new cases they are finding since lockdown started and how many of them were out and about. It means there has to be more.

Looking ugly. NSW, act now, or seriously pay the price.

Absolutely.

The contact tracer rhetoric needs to stop. We don’t talk about whether NSW or Vic has the best firefighters. We talk more about whether the fire was caught early and remind people they shouldn’t be cooking with outdoor fires when the surrounding bush is dry.

Acting fast with strict rules is the most effective way to get out quickly.

In response to Qs about State vax hubs ( including in the regions) Gladys saying that being expanded, plus pharmacies

  • but not really relevant, it’s the vax shortages stupid.
Now she is limiting Qs to anyone who has not asked Qs - no follow throughs

The internecine bickering between states needs to stop but it won’t, because this bullshit us v them mentality was established early on through pot shots, backhanded comments and completely unnecessary criticism to try and score political points.

And look where it’s got us

It’s not so simple. I’ve got a mate who struggles to put petrol in his car. Others who rely on public transport and literally live pay check to pay check.

Personally I’d like to see free food deliveries into suburbs with outbreaks and instant bans on rental payments.

If your a landlord or home owner in the area an immediate pause given on your debt repayments.

Then those suburbs in hard lockdown.

It’s not like our banks or big supermarkets couldn’t afford it.

All easy to implement. Just needs some will.

Gladys looks like she’s got the sniffles. “Can’t be stronger than saying don’t leave the house unless you have to…” Well, full lockdown might be a bit stronger than those thoughts and wishes.
