COVID-19 Round 18 - Dan Dictates you must get back to doing the things you love

right so here’s where ya boi simmo41 is at

day 3 of isolating as a close contact
day 3 of being symptomatic
day 3 of not being able to find a test (rat or pcr) for love nor money

i’m thinking of just skipping the test, assuming i have it, and acting accordingly because even if i were to get a test later in the week, the 7 day iso clock starts from then and i’ll be holed up for 10+ days total.

I really don’t know whether I should come for the tennis or not anymore :frowning: I’m resigned to the fact I will get it at some point, but I don’t want to infect other people along the way

It’s going to be peaking in 2 weeks time.

Dilemmas :frowning:

That’s what I would do. All the best.

Has anybody else been ducking and weaving this thing over the last couple of weeks? It’s been a hectic time of year and I’ve caught up with maybe 7 or 8 people that have been Covid positive at the time without knowing it, only to msg me a day or 2 later to tell me to get tested. I’ve had a RAT almost every day since the 20th Dec, and 1 PCR when i had a sore throat.

Anyway, i think last night might have been the one that catches up with me. 8 people in a living room drinking together for a couple of hours, 3 of which have pinged a positive RAT today. I’m waiting on somebody that’s dropping of some tests because i didn’t want to go out shopping and potentially spread it.

It seems some people are really resistant to this thing though. I know a few people that have had Covid but none of the people the live with have caught it.

4 private clinic operators temporarily closed in Victoria to clear backlog, State testing sites remain open, but IIRC it means 54 private sites shut ATM.
ABC Sydney continues to treat Vic pressers as largely irrelevant, ABC radio Melbourne airs most of it, 34m RAT kits on their way to fill PCR gap.

Also, even if you see no point in avoiding it, the more everyone can do to avoid being another link in the chain right now, the more they will help relieve the strain on our health systems and staff

Likewise. It’s just become a waiting game for me at the moment, but have had absolutely zero symptoms. I could actually use a week off work too, so it won’t necessarily be the worst thing that could happen atm.

I hope it doesn’t get too bad for you Simmo. Those PCR lines are getting looong. I’m glad I got through mine in only 1.5 hours yesterday.

If you’re not able to get a test, make sure you’re 2 days symptom free before going back out, and if it gets worse, think about at least trying to access an oximeter if you can’t get access to a hospital.

There is a large element of luck and policy involved… if they wanted to, they could be more isolated than WA.

Their Maori vax numbers are lagging a bit behind the overall population still, but at least they’re at a good starting point, with <12yo to start shortly.

But we’ve seen how numbers can explode in states that had bugger-all cases for 20 months…

we are just starting to see the people who caught it new year’s eve now

on local facebook groups where people put up their QR checkin places, as govt doesn’t.

looks like plenty got it from festival, then night clubs new year’s eve mostly younger population but has spread fast.

testing ques in hobart a problem, but at least they are giving away free RAT at derwent entertainment centre.

That’s awesome news - pennywise only shows ul every 27 years or so. The end must be in sight.

We’ll have all had it over here by then so no need to worry about giving it to anyone.

It is just a matter of time before they have an O outbreak & join the rest of us in this chaotic mess.

E.g. there was a scare last week when a UK DJ who was supposed to be self-isolating went on a bender before his day 9 test results came in. They came back as +ve with O. But there are no known community cases as a result, so he mustn’t have been infectious.

My parents arrived in Tassie yesterday by plane, and were supplied with a free RAT to use whenever they want, if they get symptoms.

I was going to suggest yesterday for people who can’t find a RAT anywhere in VIC, all you need to do is book a quick flight to Tassie and back. Of course, you’re supposed to use a RAT before you fly there, so there’s that…

Surely there are better ways than this? Have you forgotten how successfully covid can be detected in sewerage? Surely a large turd would be much more robust in transit than a sneeze.

sheesh
It’s seems every man and his camel is going down with Covid
2 months ago I never heard of anyone I knew with it
Now it’s all over the place & they all say they have been double jabbed
But all say they’ve had the Pfizer jabs, not one who has had the AZ jab
Any coincidence or is it just not as many AZ jabbers or a stronger resistance or luck of the draw

Mostly older folks w AZ. Mostly younger folks w Pf. It’s mainly the latter out & about catching O.

Edit - supposedly AZ is less resistant to O
