Cricket Part III

To think Paul Reiffel tried to lose it for us twice…

@redbull did you see that the guys who did the '93 GSTW podcast are doing the same with the '99 WC? Two eps are up but haven’t had a chance yet. Hopefully it’s as good as '93

First game tonight and it’s on FTA. Hopefully the Saffies can sneak a win and send a bit of panic and doubt through the Engish team. Doubt it, but I’ll be hoping!

The best result here is washout.

This world cup will be a welcome distraction for what has been a disappointing footy season for some Bomber fans I’d imagine. :grinning:

Saffers looking pretty underwhelming to be honest. World Class chokers when they were actually good, who knows how they’ll go when they’re bog average.

Hopefully Rabada can have a day out.

Gonna need to. Mind you, Poms bowlers are rather getable.

I’ll be very interested to see how the Archer component goes. (Assuming he plays, of course)

Given their pace battery is completely devoid of any discernible x factor he has to play. Their spinners will be okay but wickets up front are going to be crucially important and they look far from threatening in this regard. Especially with injury clouds over some of them.

Can’t see them getting close to the semis

The last spot is a bit of a raffle.

England, India, Australia should barring calamity comfortably secure 3 of the 4 semi final berths. You can raffle the last place between the others.

*excepting the Bangers and Afghanistan

Yep I am had seen they were doing a new podcast. I listened to the preview episode yesterday. Should be super interesting again. I actually had drafted a post here yesterday (just saw it now) but got distracted when looking for the link.

Poms have set themselves for this. All their planning, staff appointments, etc, have been geared around winning the 2019 World Cup on their home soil. England have an excellent batting line-up for ODI cricket, they have firepower up front but also crucially towards the lower middle order. Buttler is ridiculous both with his power and improvisation and he’s a specialist towards the back end of an innings. Root doesn’t have to do much more than play his normal game, anchor the innings and let the others bat around him. 400 totals will be a regular occurrence. We thankfully have come good as the right time for this tournament. We probably have the edge in terms of bowling but perhaps not the same punch with the bat as the Poms. Having said that, if Maxwell has a big WC we can win it.

Good to see nine have cleared their popular 9gem programming for the night for the world cup opener

Pretty much. The ECB have been planning for this since the last WC. They have almost destroyed the test side by being so focused on the limited overs stuff

Our batting goes very deep

Our weakness is the bowling. While very good at containing runs, not as good at running through teams. Rashid will be key

I personally think we will win the WC but lose the Ashes to Australia

The are a few teams that if they get it together could be lethal. Pakistan is such an enigma, they can either be great or woeful. Ditto West Indies

Smokey for me is New Zealand. Their bowlers will like bowling in the English conditions, and they have some big hitters

Looking forward to it
No idea who will win, but it means I can continue my “I’m not watching anyone but Essendon” campaign against the AFL. It’s a small step, but it’s a step :joy::joy:
