A KILLER rang 000 twice and calmly told operators he had slashed his wife’s throat and to come collect her body.

Parminder Singh, 29, has indicated to the Magistrates’ Court he will plead not guilty to the shocking murder of his wife Nikita Chawla on the grounds of mental impairment.

In disturbing audio before the court and released to the Herald Sun on Friday, Mr Singh is heard telling the emergency operator he killed the talented dancer because he suspected her of cheating on him.

The 23-year-old died in the early hours of January 9 in her Brunswick West flat.

“Come and collect the body,’’ he tells the first operator. “I killed her.’’

When asked if he had any weapons, Mr Singh responds: “I had one big knife I used to cut her throat.’’

The killer confirmed he was neither drunk nor alcohol affected and that he had suffered from “anger anxiety’’ in the past.

When transferred to a policeman, Mr Singh continued his extraordinary statement.

“I got my wife, right, I killed her. I love her so much, I had a bright future with her and then she’s been cheating on me … I just find out today and I … I think my anxiety took over and then I lost it.

“I think I couldn’t control myself and I hold a big knife and kept hitting her until she stopped breathing.’’

At 1.49am – 12 minutes after his first call – Mr Singh calls again.

“Man, I killed my wife,’’ he repeats.

He then flagged down a paramedic enroute to the ■■■■■■ scene and tells paramedic Ken Potter the same thing.

When interviewed by police, Mr Singh told police he killed his wife because she had cheated on him.

“But I don’t know why she cheated on me,’’ he told police. “I told her, ‘if you have anyone I’ll let you go. Please keep me in the loop. I want you happy.’

“She lies, lied and she’s not smart enough.”

Mr Singh told police his wife used her birthdate as her phone password, which he used to access her text messages.

Days before she died, Ms Chawla allegedly told her husband she wanted to move out.

Police claim Mr Singh became suspicious and checked her phone as she slept.

He found messages from a contact named Jodene that contained photos of a bearded man.

He told police he felt angry and he could not remember what happened next.

“She was breathing heavily and she was bleeding, and I was like, “Why am I holding knife and why is she sick?,’’ he told police.

Court documents reveal Mr Singh had a history of depression and has expressed feelings of anger and anxiety in the year leading up to Ms Chawla’s horrific death.

In November last year – months before she would die – Ms Chawla returned to India to visit friends and family.

While there, she allegedly commenced a friendship with a work colleague – the bearded man who texted his photo to her on the night she would be killed.

Police claim the pair became close and Ms Chawla talked to a friend about leaving her husband.

Days later she was dead.

Mr Singh will appear before the Supreme Court on Monday.

Pretty awful.

Fking tragic this.

What can be done to let Men know there is life after the heartache of a Marriage break up, and that there is just no need to do this shitt?

It seems it’s becoming more prevalent as years go by. It’s astonishing that anyone could get in a state of mind that this even occurs as a viable option, let alone the executed supposed solution.

Just heart wrenching. RIP little ones.

Fk.

Yeah, this is a horrific story.

My heart also goes to the first responders, what an absolutely terrible scene to have to attend.

Just an absolute tragedy.

More prevalent, or just finally reported more?

No words for this. Those poor, poor babies.

I have 4 kids between 1 and 9 years old and I feel sick reading that. I can’t comprehend how any piece of ■■■■ could be that ■■■■■■■ selfish and narcissistic to not only take their kids lives, but to kill them in the most brutally way possible.
That act is up there as one of those most despicable and heinous acts commit by a human.

I was on shift today and know a few of the firies who were first arriving. I cannot comprehend what they are feeling. 1 of them hasn’t even been in 12 months. I have never had any fatalities including children (touch wood) and I hope I never do.
The crews were stood down for debriefing and initial counselling. Unfortunately the first crew were needed back at the scene this afternoon to use the hydraulic cutting gear to gain access to the vehicle for the police.
This is the type of incident that can break the strongest of first responders. My crew and I were silent with grief and rage just reading the incident radio messaging (word back) while it was unfolding.
The impact if these types of incident are very wide reaching and extremely long lasting for some.

If she lives, she is pretty bad apparently.

This stuff of killing the kids? More prevalent.

You look at the family photo and think these people have the perfect life, this is so horrific, those poor little children, I have a single mother living with me due to the father not being able to care for his daughter, my heart goes out to her every day, I make sure she has everything she needs. This act goes beyond words, how could you do this?? This man has grown to his 40’s and decides to kill 3 beautiful children and his own, my god, this ■■■■ devastates me

First order of business would involve a massive overhaul of our catastrophically unjust divorce/family court laws.

Died in hospital

It does seem that. I know with my cousin, she won full custody even though her husband was never abusive, physically or emotionally, was a good father and friend. She basically did it to make him suffer.

Not sure why the woman seems to win full custody and why the male has to pay child support in most cases.

One of the areas where “male privilege” works against men. The stereotype that kids are better with the mother is very prevalent in the judiciary. Those of us who want to get rid of the sexist stereotyping do recognise there are areas that men will “win” as well as “lose”.

And in fairness, this isn’t a gender issue. Happens to women also. A woman being skinned alive unjustly in a divorce is equally abhorrent.

The amount of dead beat dads who pay zero child support and abuse their ex partners is more common than most men like to accept!
I’ve been 100% financially and emotionally responsible for my 2 step kids since they were Babies.
The torment that person has caused my wife, the kids and I is horrible to live through.
My wife is a living ball of anxiety that even though there is a FVO out against this person that he too could flip to the next level and do something like this.
Every time I get a sensor alert on my phone at night from our CCTV camera’s my heart rate jumps dramatically.
For every money hungry women who has an unfair vendetta against her ex their would be 10 times the amount of man child’s not interest in making sacrifices to honour their kids lives

Excellent point. One that I hadn’t previously considered. The roles of the mother and father are of equal importance.
