Dons v Cats - TUES 25th 7.10pm @ the Cattery

Reckon he’s just out of form/rusty.

I do agree with leaving him out for the first 2 rounds at least.
What he put up yesterday was putrid !

His teammates didn’t help him much either. I don’t think he has had a great preseason, so hopefully just blowing out some rust.

Typically as soon as Duursma strings 3 good games together he gets injured, so at least we know that won’t be happening for a while.

Honestly, you can’t blame his team mates for the errors.
His decision making was off, and that’s the worst he’s used the ball ever.

I understand he’s our best Winger and a good player.
If form and confidence is important, he shouldn’t play against the Suns.

Last night was really encouraging. For the first time in years you got the sense of structure, fitness and players capable of playing roles.
If we can keep this list relatively injury free this could be a much better year than most are expecting.

hes one of our most important players you dont not play someone because of a few bloopers in a practice match.

I wish it was only a few !

it doesnt matter players dont get dropped for mistakes like that. especially important players.

He won’t be dropped because we don’t have any specialist Wingers, especially since Durham & Martin are being deployed elsewhere.

JJ raised a fair point.
Why play a guy underdone and lacking touch ?
It’s a risk but we’ll find out in 10 days if it’s an over reaction.

hes not underdone. hes had a good preseason. from memory he was very good against the bulldogs

He’s nowhere near our most important players. I like him but SEH, Roberts and half the kids (Lual, Johnson?) should have his position in their sights. I can’t think of a position in our side more gettable than our second wing slot, assuming Martin is in the first.

I agree we looked sharp, but i do remember a game in Geelong, Essendon v gold coast in the covid year where we looked just as good and i thought ‘here we go, we might finally be onto something here’.

That and V Adelaide at marvel in i think 21 or 22 was the other time I’ve thought “we’re finally looking good and might be going places” and unfortunately it reverted back to kind shortly after.

What i liked the most is we didnt let Geelong move the ball easily they were constanly rushing their disposal going forward

We did the same against Bulldogs. play like we have the last 2 weeks we will beat GC and Hawks

The more I see what we have on our list, the more I get a grasp on what the few remaining priorities should be in terms of recruitment to help this group become a legitimate finals outfit who can do some damage.

In no particular order I think the three clear RFI’s are:

  1. A proper star midfielder who can drive out of contests and make things happen with ball in hand

  2. A proven key forward of high quality to lighten the responsibility on Caddy. Ideally one who could chop out in the ruck but not essential.

  3. Another class/fast small forward to work alongside Kako to ramp the pressure on teams up even higher when the ball hits the deck in our forward half.

It’s all good and well to be able to do this in a practice match in February.

Can they do it in round 18, 19, 20, etc?

If they can’t, then it doesn’t mean very much

How about no stop being a wet blanket

Absolutely, and this is why we can’t get excited before mid-late July.
However, the difference is we seem to be developing a functioning forward line and a deep complementary midfield.
I would still love to see Merrett playing the “quarterback” role off half back and if Parish can get back fit, healthy and in form, we might see more of that.
