My only issue with Jones is that about 50% of those disposals were backwards. The whole point of a dominant wing is to attack hard. He did that a bit, but not enough.
On the plus side, at least when he got the ball, he disposed of it quickly on most occasions. Last year he was a movement stopper.
Decent showing, interesting game style, some things to like about the way the backline and forward line worked. Seems the pairing of Hobbs and Tsatas might be used a bit this year. Glad they are getting a showing.
Not trying to disparage anyone here, but out defensive line looks so much better without Heppel, Hind, Kelly, Laverde in it.
Time and time again last night our backs looked faster or at least on par with their forwards, unlike last year when we looked like we were running on a treadmill.
There was plenty of useless bombing to Caddy though. It’s just a) Caddy is a better overhead mark than 2MP, b) Caddy is better at keeping in the contest than 2MP, c) Caddy had that rare Essendon commodity of a decent ground level player buzzing around him.
That useless, kick-and-hope entry into the forward line needs to be thrashed and beaten out of our players.
I agree. I like him. I was very disappointed he didn’t take that second shot for goal though. He was scared because he missed the earlier one. He should have taken it as a challenge.
True. What I like about him too is he has body size and doesn’t seem too afraid to use it.
He doesn’t need to be a Caddy with an innate self belief to slot a bag in front of the sticks. But more as a team player I think he will be fantastic.
Ie feel like he might just miss that selfish self confident streak that you need as a forward . So he’s not going to naturally take those chances I don’t think.
And it won’t mean he isn’t a great asset for the side
Caddy is th real deal though, he goes very hard at the contest something wright doesnt always do. Caddy is creating spills for our new look forward line, And draper as a forward makes us very potent if this is the recipie that we are cooking. All of a sudden I sort of cant see where P. Wright slots into this.
One of the commentators criticised Shiel for not lowering his eyes and going for a 15m pass instead of the longer bomb that dropped into a cluster.
We are consistently bad at hitting space for leading forwards. Of course with Kako we might want the spoiling contest and have him present for the crumb.
I get the feeling Durham is going to play almost as much forward as mid. Not sure if that’s the best use of him, but he does have a liking for the goals.
Maybe it allows our best 22 to thrive by him and Martin being forward a fair bit.
Super impressed with the way the Bombers went about it last night. Not sure how the season will pan out now, but if last night was an audition, they passed with flying colours. Go Bombers 2025.
