Drinking Spirits

I prefer a whisky sour. Been drinking them for years at any bar that could make them but more recently they’ve become trendy & expensive. Found a 20’s style bar in Bali that made these awesome ice balls the size of a tennis ball - clear as crystal. Sippin sours by the pool lazing away the days…sigh.

I’ve been a scotch drinker since forever and never really looked at other whiskeys, except for the occasional Jack Daniel’s. I tried Irish whisky for a while but I don’t really like it. But recently I’ve tried Kentucky straight bourbon, the Woodforde’s that Boot posted above, and I really like it. The other day I decided to branch out further and bought a bottle of Bulleit 95 rye, but after a couple of goes I think it’s a bit too sweet for me. I’ll broaden my sampling of Kentucky straight in the weeks to come. Never neglecting the scotch, of course; still the original and the best.

For another crack at a rye try the Michters. When you drinking rye you want the hot spice hit.

For the bourbon, I forget the exact legality around labelling, but you’ll generally find a high rye or high wheat bourbon. Wheat will be sweeter and rye spicier. Classic high rye is whiskey like Wild Turkey. Classic high wheat is whiskey like Makers Mark.

To be entitled to the label Kentucky straight, it has to be 51%+ corn mash.

I am rolling with this Rye. I drink it neat.

Advancing my policy of trying more bourbon, I bought a bottle of Russell 10 year old Kentucky Straight at Dan’s.

Powerful stuff. I think I prefer the Woodforde’s

Woodfords is the best I’ve found, regardless of price or reputation.

The Russell is better at half time and up by 22 points. I mean better than it was, not better than the Woodford’s.

Hey been trying to work this out with mates.

What do you call those flask size bottles of whisky/rum/Bourbon or vodka u get at bottlos?

I think they are 200mls.

Hip flask?

Yeah id refer to a stainless steel flask u fill up as a hip flask.

I know the single shots are minis but what about the 200s and 375s?

I’ve only ever bought the Jim beam ones & they are the same shape as the stainless ones you refill so I thought the name might be more about the shape.

Hip flasks is bringing back memories of smuggling 3 or 4 full ones into night clubs/pubs.
One in each back jeans pocket, could usually tuck one in ya socks and if it was winter you’d bust out the jacket and walk in with a litre of spirits stuffed in it :joy:

To the original though - don’t think it’s got a special name. On all the websites it’s just listed as 200ml bourbon name

Did a google and the yanks call them half pints. (375s are pints). Doesnt seem right when refering to spirits though.
