I call up my local labour hire mob looking for work. I find myself speaking with the receiptionist. I ask to speak with one of the recruiters that I’d spoken with previously that had found me work. ‘She’s in a meeting.’ I smell bullshit. I ask when the meeting is expected to finish and the receptionist says she doesn’t know. I tell her I’ll call back.
Maybe I’m too soft and too sooky. But if somebody calls me looking for a job I’d feel like ■■■■ fobbing them off and lying to them. I hate doing ■■■■ that makes me feel dishonest.
So which is, blitz? Do I need to get off Fantasy Island and realise that this is what good employees do and something that I myself should do if involved in a similar role? Or is it poor form that should be remedied? Yes, obviously it’s a bit of both but which do you think carries more weight?

I think that some people just don’t care. Actually most people really, 80% or more.
On LinkedIn I must have 100+ recruiter contacts. I personally only trust 2 of them.
Kinda not with you here. What are you expecting an admin person to do?
recruiting is 99% churn work - realistically they don’t know you nor care about you, you’re just a product to be sold. That’s the equation. I would be pushing the reception person to leave a request for a call back. (And also they’re probably on a commission, so if that one specific recruiter won’t call you back, get reception to page a colleague who will…)

Honestly? I’m expecting the exact treatment I got. I just wonder how much people give a ■■■■ about not giving a ■■■■.

So if you wanna be a quality human being that has a work ethic, a conscience and doesn’t want to be married to the job or work for slave wages, what would you recommend? Asking for me.
You should expect them to do their job. Part of that is acting like they care.
They don’t actually care, of course. Any more than the guy at the servo does. But part of their job about selling a service is acting like they do.
