I reckon Stallion is one of those blokes too ashamed to admit he bathes with Gwen Stefani booming in the background.

Ugly win beats noble loss any day

I’m not ashamed of that!

■■■ TYPICAL ESSINGTON LOSS

Didn’t see the game. Just watched the afl highlights package. Easily the worst highlights package I’ve seen, do the have something against showing goals?

Good to see we won comfortably, can’t be too often we’ve won 4 interstate games in a year. We’ll live to rue the start of the year

Just watch the Smith goal.

We’ve improved this year. Want proof? In any other of the last ten years, that is EXACTLY the sort of game we would have lost. We would have come out after half time, still unmotivated, and needing it all to come together in the last but it never does and we lose by 3 goals.

Instead, this time we were having a dog of a night but still found a way. That’s what good teams do. We’re not a good team yet, but winning when we’re well down is a really good sign.

Take Brown, McNiece, Long, Colyer, Myers Goddard and 1 other out of that side for 2019 and add: Daniher, Gleeson, Fantasia, Stringer, Begley, Francis and Zaharakis and I reckon we’re looking alright.

Happy with the win. Big improvement in the second half although some of our disposal and decision making was still atrocious.
Just don’t know how we will ever shake this superior complex mentality against teams that we play near the bottom of the ladder.

Random thoughts

First half, mentally we weren’t switched on and didn’t bring any sort of intensity.

Glad to see the boys backing up saad at every opportunity. Though he is also more than capable of holding his own

Would love to know how many times a GC player marked the ball in our attacking goal square.

Hep played exactly how a captain should when he his team is struggling. Put his body in, hit targets, did the team things. Was fantastic tonight

Zac was very good, definitely come out of his lean patch

This has to be Goddard last season.

Really like Langford’s game and how clean he was

Devon Smith just does what Devon Smith does. His work rate without the ball is probably the best I have ever seen from an Essendon player, the amount of chasing, tackling etc that he does is amazing

Mcniece gives his all, but doesn’t look AFL standard. No shame in that, VFL looks to be his level

From the start of the 2nd half we upped our intensity and pressure and we rightfully got on top

Goal kicking is still a massive issue. Cost the VFL team a win today, and really stopped us from winning by 10+ goals once we got on a run in the 2nd half

Colyer, goes straight out for Raz. Time for him to go back the the VFL and build up some solid form. He should be modeling his game on Smith’s, even if he doesn’t have the ball he can still make an impact for his team.

Sorry to be that guy, but…

We won. However we are playing a team that is pretty much farked with one of these worst defence records in the league… so if we truly want to be a ‘great’ team then no one should really be satisfied with what we dished up.

First half was ugly but night games in QLD tend to be that as the ball gets slippery and the players still don’t seem to grasp the concept of wearing long stops. Second half was also ugly but they dropped any hint of intensity around the ball which allowed us to create a margin.

Our conversion around goal was horrendous but we had a great goal kicking week last week… so perhaps the universe evening itself out?

The margin flattered them big time and tonight was a missed chance to really pile on some goals and try to get closer to Adelaide on % if we want any remote chance of making finals.

McNeice really really looks out of his depth and should not play again this year. Glad Long got a game and was again better than Colyer… so perhaps next week he actually gets the respect and decency to be named in the starting team? Langford, Jerrett, Heppell, Parish and Smith showed our midfield is coming together nicely… TBell was a monster.

The long bombing to the goal square still shows we are a very dumb football IQ team. May was on one leg and we just kept kicking it to him… eeek.

Hooker and Hurley… both fab and both looking soooo comfortable working with each other again. Loving it. Dea solid again… Saad is just exciting to watch and loved McKennas mark… solid hands! Missed Raz and stringer up forward but Walla was great and Brown kept presenting well.

Bring on Freo.

Fark it was cold…

Very Cold…

Suns didn’t kick 10 goals so no free Big Mac.

Why is it when Goddard or Hurley have the ball you are surprised if the kick goes to one of our boys.

Oh and dont yell out ‘Take it easy boys you’ll bankrupt their club with the fines’ when there is a bit of biff, the locals don’t like it.

On the plus side, the young bloke got his picture on the score board, and the daughter got a high 5 from Tippa, so they are happy.

I was gonna say something snarky but hell they’ve actually managed to do that 3 times this year!
