Electric Motor Vehicles

Latest estimate for arrival date - July 21.

Getting the car out of quarantine the issue.

Would have been nice if they had done this a day earlier so that VICs could take advantage of the $3K rebate the government was offering.

My sister in law ordered a Chinese EV online!
Picked it up last night.

I’d never heard of the brand but it’s BYD.

As far as I know, they’re the Chinese company that’s selling lots of EVs. Other car (EV) companies are Chinese-owned, like MG.

I have heard good reports on BYD.

  • BYD, a Chinese conglomerate, is the largest EV company based on the nearly 1.9 million EVs it manufactured in 2022, according to EV-Volumes. …
  • Tesla built 1.3 million EVs in 2022, the most by a U.S. company and second most in the world.

Quantity is always better than quality

Yep, but someone I know who bought an ATTO and is very happy. Cost about $55,000 on road

They have joint ventures with Dainler making luxury EVs and now with Toyota and it is reported they will make all of Toyotas EVs.

BYD is the mob Warren Buffett famously invested a massive sum of money in.

Toyota are making electric vehicles with them as well and they are I believe the worlds number 1 producer.

Of brands that are new to the country id say they are a safe bet as being around for the life of your sisters in laws vehicle.

I was behind one the other day.
Almost see as many BYDs as Teslas these days

I was blown away she just bought it online!

The world today.

No test drive?

What if she hates it!

That is how you buy nearly all EVs. You can go and find a centre to test drive, but virtually none will sell you a car, you have to order online, pay a nominal deposit, in my case for Tesla it was $250 and then wait for delivery and pay the rest. I have never been a great fan of car salesmen, so I found it a good way to buy a car.

Even those with established dealer networks?

Mercedes,Kia,Hyundai,Audi, BMW etc are all flogging EVs here.

Theres no negotiation with a website

After I placed a deposit online on the Volvo sight unseen, the dealership rang me a few months later to see if I wanted a test drive. Reports were terrific and it was still Covid-rife times, so I politely declined.

I drove the XC40 twin for the first time the day I drove it home. There was zero negotiation. Like most EVs I think, there is no excess stock floating around.

Not sure about Kia, think you have to go to a Dealer, @Alan_Noonan_10 might know. Mercedes is online, but maybe Dealers may sell them…

Not head of EV sale being negotiable.

AFAIK you have to go to a dealer for a Kia, but Ioniq5’s needed to be booked online from Hyundai.

I have been told that Mercedes are interested in closing down a number of their dealerships. Something about them wanting to take a more direct stake in their distribution/sales. Don’t know how accurate that is.

Tesla has squeezed the market with its falling prices and the traditional Dealers margin is a barrier for others to do it.

And now with most cars being fully featured there is no profit in all those extras Dealers used to convince was needed.

Just checked on the info l was told, and l was in error. Mercedes aren’t closing down dealerships, but HQ in Germany are tightening controls instead, in terms of tighter guidelines on pricing. This means that the scope for dealers to do deals will disappear.
