They decided to close them all, but the dealers fought back. I think it’s somewhere in the courts now.
theres a new small electric volvo out that looks good for a small premium vehicle.
EX30
Priced about the same as a tesla 3/Y
~480km range
Its probably because they are such small volume still too?
Car arrives in Warrnambool tomorrow. Then a couple of days’ preparation for ceramic, tint, dashcam and pick it up Monday.
Now to get the electrician’s arse into gear, but the first little while I can just survive with the granny cable, charging at 2 Kwh.
Edit…Monday/. Arrived Wednesday but then they couldn’t book the tinting till Wednesday, so now projected to be Friday.
Has anybody tried using OBD2 dongles or adapters to work with ABetterRoutePlanner (or PlugShare)?
I’m not sure if these overcome the lack of Wireless CarPlay too.
So have you got it now? How do you like it? What exactly is it again?
Friday. Kia EV6, RWD, GT-Line
So, my battery went flat today. Not the big one, the little 12v one.
Car wouldn’t start.
On what farking planet, is an electric vehicle with a battery that can store enough power to run a house for a week, not able to charge the 12v battery required to start the car?
In the end I got it sorted, but FFS.
I’ve read that a few people have that issue. Not sure how widespread it is.
It’s more common in the US where they have the app that lets you connect to the car. I think the app spends a lot of time pinging the car back and forth and can drain the battery to the point it won’t start.
As usual, there is a class action…so we don’t get that app here (actually it might be available on your model)
It would probably enable remote start and controlling the car from your phone (for parking) amongst other things.
What little 12 v battery ?
Edit
Have checked it out and now I know all about it. Think I need to investigate it further, how did you overcome the problem ?
Yeah…i was just looking through EV YouTubes on ABRP and saw this.
Lol. I meant the regular car battery. Little compared to the main one.
I ended up just leaving it. Came tried agin and it worked.
RACV we’re already reroute. So they tested the battery, and I just drive around to recharge it.
The dealer rang me after 3.30 to tell me the car was ready to be picked up.
Half an hour drive into Warrnambool to organise the bank cheque or transfer (too high for my limits), and the banks shut at 4pm. So picking it up tomorrow morning.
Edit…picked it up yesterday lunchtime after an exhausting half hour at the bank, going through a scam questionnaire. So many people are halfwitted that the banks find themselves obligated to check large transactions.
Took the neighbour out for a bit of a drive but haven’t really given it a good flogging yet. Printed out the 525-page PDF manual.
The thing I’m struggling to find at the moment is how to add a few ABC AM stations. It’s not obvious and it’s not mentioned in the manual. The dealership only loaded FM stations, none of which I listen to.
The closest high-speed charging stations are now in Camperdown…about 100km away, so there’s 200km down the drain. After today’s bad weather, there’s nothing in the solar battery to use the trickle charger (for virtually free).
Congratulations.
It might be a Korean car thing, but mine has equally non intuitive media set up. Plus it has an inbuilt ‘white noise’ player. So you can choose between beach sounds, a rainforest, fireplace, someone walking in crunchy snow (WTF) a NOISY coffee shop (WTAF). Plus there’s a setting to record short voice messages.
Next thing is to get the guy who installed my solar to install the Zappi. I’m finding it hard to get hold of him (standard practice for so many tradies), that in my message, I asked him if he doesn’t have time, can he recommend someone else. I really want it done within the week.
I’ve also ordered an Ottocast adapter to turn CarPlay wireless. Will have to consider car mats too.
With the fact that these cars only have wired CarPlay/Android Auto, I picked up an Ottocast wireless dongle (U2X-Pro). Seems to work well.
Edit… after a return trip to Sydney, this Ottocast dropped out six or seven times, and this morning, died in the arse completely.
One important thing I noticed is that driving at 100kmh is not particularly economic, but driving at 110kmh is much worse. As proof, this morning I was driving back from Benalla where I stayed the night, heading towards the Evie station in Epping (on Cooper St) just north of the Ring Road, I was checking the distance to go versus the range left. The range was dropping faster than the distance, so I dropped back to 100kmh, and the difference grew instead of dropped. At 100kmh, you’re still going at more than 20kwh/100km. Apparently the most economic speed is about 85kmh, like for an ICE car, and driving in the city is the most economic, because of the regen system when braking.
Yes, it’s actually interesting how much impact drag has on cars at higher speeds. X2 your speed, and you’ll X4 your drag.
Zappi got installed this arvo so I should be able to charge off solar and battery much quicker than through the 3-pin plug.
We even had a young lady acting as apprentice. I tried to sign her up to play in our men’s midfield (she’s about 180cm and 80kg).
