Yep when I got into it in the late 90’s it was Monday night highlights show (usually followed by South Park) and the Preview show on Saturday late afternoons I can recall watching in the early 00’s.
SBS used to do a full replay of a game aswell on Sunday arvo’s which were a week old.
But at the end of the day titles are all that matter not how many times you have finished 4th to 8th.
I’m sure Arsenal fans would happily swap records with us despite our sojourn in the second division
We used to get the league matches with Brian Moore in the 70s, possibly 60s. FA Cup was hosted by Jimmy Hill. Black and White so those games between Wolves and Coventry for example were difficult.
My earliest memory of a live FA Cup final was Sunderland beating hot favourite Leeds 1-0 with an Ian Porterfield scoring and Jim Montgomery making a brilliant save.
And then maybe the next year, Charlie George winning for Arsenal in a replay.
And the first black players playing for West Ham…Ade Coker and someone Best…Clyde?
It was highlights on Monday nights for years, and the summaries on 3LO just after 6pm on Sunday.
Yep. I used to listen to the BBC world service on a Saturday night. They’d usually provide live commentary from the second half of the match of the day and otherwise provide live score updates and sometimes cut to a replay of the radio commentary from the game. That used to be the worst because you’d be hoping for them to mention that there’d been a goal in your game but dreading the worst outcome at the start of the commentary.
This is what I used to do.
I remember when they would go around to the other stadiums for scores The guy stationed at Everton was one hell of a colourful character.
Missed the game this morning, one of the worst hangovers I’ve had after a big one Saturday Night/Sunday Morning so slept like a baby last night. Not completely surprised by that result, Merseyside derbies are often fairly tense, dour encounters, and they would’ve been up for taking points off us and helping prevent us winning the title. At least the defence is holding firm, that’s 5 clean sheets in a row in all competitions, but for once the problem is up the other end of the pitch…
