Why pick only 4 players?? Pizz away Mt Rushmore!!! Use the Great Aust Bite; that way we could carve EvERYONE that’s played for us!! Or being on the committee! Just start at one end and keep carving!!!

Hutchison’s 4 premierships as a player stacks up. Only Reynolds can say he’s done the same thing for Essendon. Add the Brownlows and it’s easy to see why he’s a legend of the game.

He must have played the odd good final given he played in 28 of them of which we won 16 and drew 2. Amazing that he played in 10 grand finals for his 4 premierships - one was a draw.

Why does everyone keep calling Bill Hutchison “Hutchinson”?

Yep. You can look at the recorded histories.

Or you can trust the opinions of credible people who were actually there and personally saw what happened.

And you can also check who got their facts right. For example, people are more believable if they can write key names correctly. (Hutchison not Hutchinson)

Finally, just to jog your memory: let me ask you this: do you believe the WADA/MSM version of what happened at Essendon during the Saga?

Or would you trust the opinions of credible people like James Hird who were actually there and personally saw what happened.

Think Andy Maher and Bob Murphy did one for every club very recently and Longy was in ours.

They would have very shallow knowledge of EFC history, (and at least In Maher’s case, very shallow knowledge of anything).

Here is a clue: history is more than what happened in the last 30 years.

Interested to here your thoughts on why he was recognised as a legend, if he was lesser. I’m not trying to argue the point, it’s more of all our champions I probably know the least about him(and you seem to know lots). He must have been very very good, is a few bad finals the only knock on him.

When you look at the other 12 who made that initial intake they are the most iconic players. Joining the 3 Essendon Champs were Barrasi, Bunton, Dyer, Whiten, Farmer, Matthews, Nicholls, Pratt and Skilton.

It’s an amazing list how did he get included if he wasn’t in their league.

Yes he was very very good and very well prepared - more like a professional footballer does these days. I of course am a fan of him and support his inclusion in the higher echelons of the game*. The only criticism that I have heard is what I have reported: he did not perform well in finals. We don’t have videos of those games, and only have sketchy reports in newspapers, but that is what I was told by someone who was there and whose opinions I trust.

There are others here who would have had parents who were around then, so maybe they can say if they were told anything by them.

The above reply had an asterisk to this note:

*Regarding ranking, even leaving aside the above quibbles, I do not support his ranking in CoE above Albert Thurgood, who I think was badly ranked by the judges at the time who were affected by the Recency Syndrome. At that time he should have been #3 at EFC and it is debatable if James Hird should be higher. If Hird was not stitched up by the Saga and had coached Premierships there is no doubt he would have been. But AT did play more crucial roles in more flags so I maintain his position.

Thanks.

I believe you, no reason to doubt it.

That post war era would have been a good time to have been alive and watching Essendon.

And the simple answer is I’m completely wrong :joy: He made the HoF in the first intake but wasn’t elevated to legend until later.

If it’s a version of Mt Rushmore it shouldn’t be at the Hanger- needs to be sited somewhere inappropriately where it’ll ■■■■ people off.

So opposite Princess Park & the FarkCarlton rooms would be apt.

Which also makes it easier to select the faces;
Coleman Sean Denham Longy & Sam Lonergan would do for starters.
