lol at revisionsist. Sure some here have only recently come to realise the mistakes Evans made but FFS some were also very clear that self reporting & the Ziggy were monumental mistakes from the start.
So would it satisfy you if Evans threw himself on the ground at the feet of James Hird, admitted his sins and begged forgiveness.
Or are you just going to hate him forever?
Unless Evans is prepared to expose the corruption & his dodgy dealings with the AFL then yes I will continue to hate him forever. Why would I or anyone else consider forgiving someone who shows no sign at all that they even acknowledge let alone regret their actions?
How the actual ā ā ā ā would you know that?
I think what JB is referring to is a public acknowledgement Ben, as opposed to what he might be feeling, or willing to say privately. Unfortunately, I would expect David has received legal advice which strongly recommends against doing anything of the sort.
With the benefit of hindsight, it seems as though he made a colossal error of judgement in trusting Demetriouās information and his proposed course of action but I seriously doubt we will ever hear him or anyone else admit this, no matter how infuriating it is for ordinary members and supporters to be left without anything close to an honest and comprehensive explanation of what happened.
For me it was the fact that Evans didnāt believe his own staff. He had people saying to him that they didnāt believe that EFC had done anything wrong, a number of them. Yet instead of giving them, the people at the coal face, some credit, he chose instead to believe Vlad, and Gillon, who was a major part of this, and take their pre-determined action without a whimper. Despite the fact they knew nothing about what had gone on at the club, nothing. All they knew was that Dank worked there.
He attended a past president's breakfast. This does not warrant the 'welcomed back into the fold' headline as he no longer holds an official position at the club and has not been offered one. I expect he was invited to all similar meetings since his resignation so he has never not been 'welcome in the fold' - instead he has chosen to stay away.
This is really a non event.
What you say may be true, and all well and good. l do find it significant though that he chooses to attend a meeting only after Hird is out of office.
As for the āPreviously closely aligned both professionally and personally to Hird before the then coach turned on his old friend, Evans quit the presidency in dramatic circumstances in August 2013ā comment? She can FOAD any time, the sooner the better.
You guys are huge revisionists, I can't believe there's hardly any support for Evans in here.
You blame him for being strong-armed by Vlad into self reporting? He had been told directly by Vlad that we were mentioned in an ACC report and that the AFP and customs had strong evidence to suggest Dank & Robinson had been injecting our players with PEDās.
Firstly, you think Evanās āself-reportingā would have made any difference? Pretty sure if Worksafe, ASADA, AFP, AFL wanted to raid our offices they wouldnāt have had any trouble getting the required permissions. Remember part of everybodyās contract with the AFL compels them to comply with ASADA if instructed to by the AFL. The fact is, self-reporting made no difference to the evidence collected and was intended to show that we had nothing to hide.
Secondly, I love how you guys think we can just āstick it to the AFLā. Havenāt you learned a farking thing? Evanās either thought we were innocent (which I thought we were in agreeance that we WERE innocent right?), in which case self reporting was the right thing to do. If there was a problem, we wanted to know what it was, and hopefully any penalty would be reduced. Remember when we were looking at 30 players being banned for 21 months?
And if Evanās though we were guilty, then shame on him (you blokes never doubted us for a second did you, lol), but he was told directly that we were farked and it was all about to be announced by the minister, at which point in time any kind of deal or co-operation might save the club from being de-registered or whatever. Itās all fine for you tough guys to say āI would have told them to shove itā but when the stakes are as high as they were, you donāt want the person in charge of your country/family/company/club to risk EVERYTHING in choosing one path when there is an almost guaranteed chance of survival on the path. Remember when most of you wanted Hird to withdraw his appeal because whatever we were going to cop you just wanted it to be over rather than rick players missing games?
As for the situation regarding him leaving the club, he relinquished his role when it was clear his course of action hadnāt worked, and he was breaking down from the pressure, which was honorable IMO. Are people saying he faked his illness suggesting they wanted him to stay on, otherwise stop complaining.
The one thing you failed to mention or maybe you didn't know, "allegedly" Vlad, Evans and ASADA had a little under the table deal going about what was going to happen but somehow the NRL "got wind of it" and ASADA dropped the AFL like a hot brick. Lies, lies and more ā ā ā ā ā ā lies were to follow.
Most of us, are angry at Evans putting the club and the players in this position in the first place. The Board either condoned this behaviour or they didnāt know about it. One thing is certain, the very day our club went down this path, our integrity went out the window and it has been slowly ebbing ever since. Disgraceful, yes it was and it will be a long time, before we as a club earn back the respect we have lost, if we ever do. People will always think we are dodgy.
And thatās apart from throwing the Coach under a bus and not giving a damn about the players and of course at the bottom of the ladder are the members and supporters.
Yes, good point about the ādealā, but what were his options? If he refused the deal can you say for sure it would have worked out any differently? Hird kept fighting and it didnāt fix anything in the end. I donāt appreciate that Evans may have used Hird as a bargaining chip in the deal, but I just canāt believe he would have done it without the clubs best interests in heart, given what he believed to be true at the time, and in accordance with other deals that are par for the course for the AFL.
Given what we know now, even if we had fought this from the very start, we would still have received the penalties for disrepute etc, and the cloud would still be hanging over us as it would still be heading to the CAS.
It was a complicated. We will never know the whole truth, if what he decided was the best decision or if it made any difference at all.

Thats exactly what he needs to do! If he comes out and admits his mistakes I would forgive him. But to do this he will be incriminating himself, and his AFL mates. So I canāt see it happening.
He needs to tell the world how he was tipped off by AD. Needs to explain that AD convinced him that we had taken performance enhancing substances, due to the intelligence explained to him by AD from the (confidential) ACCC report.
Needs to admit that we self reported because he was told if he did so the players would get off, and so would the board.
Needs to admit the he agreed that the staff and coaches (esp head coach would take the fall).
Needs to admit that he ājumped the gunā because he was so sure we where guilty, that he agreed to a pre-determined outcome
He needs to come out and publicly state all of this. Then Apologize for the decisions he made inline with the corruption of the AFL.
All the above came out in the EFC/JH court case against ASADA.
He also needs to admit the the Ziggy report was another AFL engineered initiative.
Evans is the key to blowing the whole saga open. If he came out and admitted exactly what happened. Jackson Taylors case would be as solid as a rock. The AFL would have no where to run, and no where to hide.
If Evans comes out and admits all of this publicly. I will forgive him, I will respect him for manning up and admitting the mistakes he made. I will welcome him home with open armsā¦
Evans should be banned for life from all Essendon events.
spat on the legacy of his family
Bit tough.
He didnāt bring Dank into the Club, and maybe he made a mistake. We would all like to know the whole truth from everyone, but I doubt we ever will.
And as you know, truth can have many different faces depending on your perspective.
Forgive, just donāt forget.
No.
Itās not about forgiveness. Itās about him explaining why and how he let his business associations get in the way of allowing people maintain their innocence until proven guilty.
By taking the path he did he tarnished everyone, including the players.
Then he conveniently jumped ship.
Now back on dry land he thinks he can just turn up again.
Why should we forgive him when he hasnāt explained? This might be the result he wanted for all we know.
Doubtful, but who knows?
Forgiveness is not about the other person explaining their actions or even apologising, it is about whether you can forgive without those other things being offered.
And Iāll happily answer āno I ā ā ā ā ā ā canātā.
lām with HAP on this one. No forgiving at this stage. Perhaps in the future, but only after a full and frank explanation of why he chose to side with Vlad and not the club and why be didnāt decide to #standbyhird.

Now you are the one doing the revision. Evans has denied being tipped off by Vlad, just as Vlad has denied tipping him off, because to admit that is a crime and punishable with time inside. The problem is Hird and Reid were there, listened to the phone call and tell a different story. Evans chose to side with the AwFuL rather than tell the truth.

The collective blood pressure in this thread is through the frickin roof.
Guys, it was just a lunch to discuss property development, something Evans knows a thing or two about. Chill the fark out.
What more do you expect?
Too many here have been trained to over analyse and search for truth anywhere and hang onto it. Even if it isnāt mainstream and even if it isnāt verified or well researched.
Anything that is mainstream is pulled apart and we pick at one solitary sentence and cling to it. And this particular article has been the perfect example.
Caro would be sitting back laughing at how much of a reaction she causes us on anything written or said about us.
The quicker people ignore her rubbish, the quicker sheāll move on to some other carcass.
